Expact
"is an electronic catalogue of medieval and renaissance scientific instruments from four European museums."
There's also the George III Collection and UNL has some Mystery Objects. Several examples and some mutlimedia at IMSS. I loves me some old brass but it looks as if it could be an expensive hobby.

gah! Ols=Old, on the sidebar

What Cunninge Workes of Man's ingenuity and Science!
-
Isn't it Epact??
-
Eactly right.
-
What beautiful objects. I was half e' 'pecting to find an Alethiometer.
-
after a while I'll consult my astronomical compendium (o these long names are vile!) which seemed much easier to use when it was just a pocket sundial
-
Wow. Both supremely gorgeous and perfectly rational. Faith in humanity may be justified. Beautiful.

I guess this is as good a thread as any to link to this cool interactive glass armonica page at the Franklin Institute. I've heard a real one played live, and it's some of the loveliest music I ever heard.
-
Ben's glass armonica creates a very lonely, mournful, moving sound. It makes me sad. No pop music will come of it.
-
Lovely site! However, this contraption is useless without a tip calculator, and I'm pretty sure that this was used to summon the Cenobites.

Way kewl toys. Me wants.
