Where is my gay apocalypse? "I have been staring with great anticipation out the window of my flat here in the heart of San Francisco, sighing heavily, waiting for the riots and the plagues and the screaming monkeys and the blistering rain of inescapable hellfire. I have my camera all ready and everything." [via Sensible Erection]
  • Beelzebub sighted at Tower Records! Story at 6!
  • The Bible verses are great. Marriage shall not impede a man's right to take concubines, in addition to his wife or wives. (II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; II Chron 11:21). I Googled that. A lot of people seem to be having fun with that on the internet. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be stoned to death. (Deut 22:13-21) If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry the widow. If he refuses to marry his brother's widow or deliberately does not give her children, he shall pay a fine of one shoe and be otherwise punished in a manner to be determined by law. (Gen. 38:6-10; Deut 25:5-10)
  • I found this interesting. LINK: The Power of Marriage Republicans condemning promiscuity is nothing new. Sex with multiple partners is a pretty liberal act and has always been relegated to the domain of the Democrats. As has support for the gay lifestyle and the whole marriage issue. Republican David Brooks, however, extends an olive branch to the gays in the form of sanctioning gay marriage. He describes marriage as a sacred committment and states that it is in the best interest of the Republican party to argue in favor of it since it is a moral institution and Republicans are all about morality. Right? Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. Ok. Now that I have stopped snorting into my morning tea, let me just say that this entry isn't about my views on the gay marriage issue. I'm against marriage for everybody. But spouting off about that in my journal really doesn't interest me at the moment. I would, however, like to take the opportunity to list some of my favorite Republicans and their more interesting 'moral' victories. 1. George W. Bush Drunk driving AWOL from military service obligations Misleading the American people to support the war in Iraq 2. Dick Cheney Accounting irregularities Drunk driving Misleading the American people to support the war in Iraq 3. Rush Limbaugh Prescription drug abuse 4. William Bennett, former Education Secretary and author of the "The Book of Virtues'' Compulsive gambling 5. Ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich Adultery 6. U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde Adultery 7. Arnold Schwarzenegger Sexual harassment Resume inflation Untruthful about physical characteristics 8. Pat Robertson Born out of wedlock 9. U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, who bankrolled California's recall initiative Auto theft Misuse of firearms 10. Matt Drudge Alleged Homosexual tendencies, over which he's threatening to sue 11. Fox News boss Roger Ailes Misuse of firearms 12. Columnist Robert Novak Disclosed the identity of an undercover CIA agent 13. Ann Coulter Religious intolerance 14. Senator Trent Lott Sympathetic to racist views 15. Bill O'Reilly Resume inflation 16. Patrick Buchanan Sympathetic to racist views 17. Former U.S. Rep. Robert Barr Adultery Misuse of firearms
  • We probably don't need to regurgitate entire blog postings from elsewhere. Links are our friend. /wants to see screaming monkeys, too
  • Derail: I always thought it was amusing that Arnie was appointed to various efforts to get America's youth fit, what with his background being in what is arguably the unhealthiest sport there is - only powerlifting could compete.
  • 10. Matt Drudge: Alleged Homosexual tendencies, over which he's threatening to sue "Alleged homosexual tendencies"?? What the hell is that, a Hello Kitty collection? Was it was Augustine who said that his having committed most of the cardinal sins gave him the unique ability to speak out most effectively against them? Perhaps these men are simply warning us of the dangers of sins they know all too well - a reconnaissance of wrongdoing, if you will, on our behalf. *wry grin*
  • We probably don't need to regurgitate entire blog postings from elsewhere. Links are our friend. My next comment post will be the New York City white pages. ;)
  • You ROCK Sullivan! But you missed Ted Kennedy on that list. Wonderfully refreshing and funny read, rodgerd. Thanks.
  • Whoa, sorry, my bad. I missed the 'republican' part. Duh. Oh well, if he was republican, he would be on that list.
  • how interesting...i read morford's 'fix' faithfully, and enjoy his sacriligous perspective and method of shaking up one's belief system in his rants. so i had already read this piece and, just this morning, read the post on it on me-fi. we do seem a much more relaxed bunch of monkies! over there they were getting distracted by the style of writing, blowing specific quotes out of proportion and finally taking digs at each other. the civilised and more enlightened ones have risen above such nonsense.
  • I cannot express how strongly I loathe Morford's style without lapsing into profanity, sneering, and threats of violence. (When you know somebody only through their writing, and you loathe their writing, do you by extension loathe them? Man, I hope not.) The fooker could make a freeper out of me yet. However, as much as I'd like to blame Morford's simultaneously shrill and smug tone for the MeFi shitstorm, I can't. They have to take responsibility for their own immoderation.
  • hmmm......goetter, you may be having just the reaction he likes to provoke, methinks. i think he's amusing in his attempts to provoke anybody who will read him. even i have been offended, but i can't take it personally, since he doesn't even know me.
  • languagehat posted a good link in the MeFi thread: I'd Leave the Country, but My Wife Won't Let Me
  • You ROCK Sullivan! But you missed Ted Kennedy on that list. Wonderfully refreshing and funny read, rodgerd. Thanks. I still remember Ted Kennedy during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. This was during the Anita Hill controversy. Kennedy was dealing with the scandal involving him and his nephew William Kennedy Smith. Ole Teddy never asked Thomas a single question. He passed the mike more times than the Beastie Boys.
  • Thanks for bring that over, homunculus. It's a powerful piece. And I feel less and less like wading through MeFi, with it's self appointed prophets and whatnot.
  • you may be having just the reaction he likes to provoke Probably, dx. I also shouldn't post before I've had my workout....
  • ah...but a mental workout is just as rewarding as the physical, sometimes. each to their own....sometimes i can't resist saying things i perhaps shouldn't...but no one has ever accused me of thinking things over too carefully before the fact...more likely to be after the fact...but your response gave me a chuckle as i saw in that morford's intent...to rock complacency anyway he can.
  • No doubt Limbaugh and Coulter think that they are "rocking complacency," too. They are all equally contemptible.
  • This Morford fellow is one of the worst published writers I have ever read. Execrable. Apologies to Morford fans as listed above.
  • I find the comparison of people to Ann Coulter more than a little offensive, unless it's Stalin or somesuch. Coulter, let's be clear, has called for programs of mass extermination of ethnic, political and religious groups, more than once, in all apparent sincerity. Neither Michael Moore, the most common target, or Morford appears to have ever suggested that America ought to be waging a new Holocaust.
  • I cannot take anyone who wrote this even remotely seriously.
  • just more of morford's profane hyperbole to my eyes.....one doesn't have to approve of or keep the wrapping with anything they digest... personally i detest those tomes of terse written thought that require so much hard work to get through, although i usually will push on. (if i consider the thought worth the effort). if the written word isn't readily accessible to understanding by the average reader then why bother? otherwise it's censorship by elitism, methinks.
  • I think Coulter hurts the right. If I was a Republican I would be worried every time she opens her mouth. She's the best thing to happen to the left since Newt Gingrich.
