Christiania , Denmark is an "unparalleled example of human entrepreneurship and innovative spirit." Since it was founded in 1971 it has had controversies, usually involving its liberal attitude to soft drugs, leading to opposition and ultimately, regulation. I saw this on BBC news and wondered if Monkeys had ever heard of it.
  • And I stuffed up the second link. First FPP is my only excuse.
  • Second link.
  • Christiania is an important pit stop on the way to Roskilde. It usually receives some media attention around here whenever someone tries to shut the place down.
  • Autonomous community? Sounds like a little... *snigger snigger* like a little... *chuckle chuckle*... a little hamlet! *runs, jumps into bed, pulls covers over head, laughs like maniac*
  • I heard it's haunted.
  • It's made out of Lego's.
  • *ahem* On topic, this No hard drugs No weapons No violence No trading with buildings or residential areas doesn't quite jive with this The next day 2 cars pulled up outside Christiania and 6-8 masked men with automatic weapons got out and headed for Pusherstreet. When they got there they simply opened fire indiscriminately toward the crowd and shot heavy rounds everywhere killing one and injuring 3 Christianites. Or is that the reason why there's no more violence? ...and Pusher Street?? Is that like a literal translation or... it's really Pusher Street?
  • What are Lego's? Is that multiple boxes full of Lego? /europedant
  • Made out of Lego's what?
  • Rød grød med fløde. (Best pickup line ever!)
  • Followup. Denmark's Hippie Haven Faces Shutdown The Danish Government and Real Estate Interests Say, Enough! I'm finding it hard to give up the 70's.
  • I'm so proud. My first FPP finally made it to the Blue. /Blatant self-aggrandisement
  • Of course, the Monkeys got a 5 year head start on that story. Congrats, EdA.
