The 100 greatest living football players ... apparently ... as chosen by Pele ... hmmm ... some startling omissions and some suprising inclusions. And yes, when I say football I mean football as I know it as a European ... (!) But ... this list comes as UK Premiership players appear to be determined to add to what's been an appalling season of shame: Leicester Leeds Charlton/Chelsea and Newcastle what can be done to stop overpaid, arrogant sports stars sullying the beautiful game?
  • The backlash begins against Pele's list. Apparently the reason why there is so many current players on the list is because FIFA wanted it to be 50 current players and 50 retired players. And its all for the purpose of flogging some photos, too. The cynic in me wonders wherever FIFA demanded John Charles be removed from the list. And if they didn't, why the hell isn't he on there.
  • what can be done to stop overpaid, arrogant sports stars sullying the beautiful game? Stop watching.
  • That's one hell of a leading question you got there, dickdotcom.
  • On behalf of all Americans: Man U! Beckham! (he bends it you know) Mia Hamm! Chivas! (for the Mexican-Americans) There. Saved us all the trouble of posting stupid "this is soccer, not football" comments. Carry on!
  • Season of shame: and in the first two cases, no one was even charged, let alone found guilty.
  • armaghetto ... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh ... I'd have preferred a "stupid this is soccer, not football comment" :-) Man U: Other clubs are available ... Beckham: much improved since he left ManUre ...
  • Terrible list.
  • aaaaahhhhhh, David Beckham, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... long, deep, happy sigh
  • Man U is still best. It's like the Canadiens - you root for them in hockey even if you are aren't from Montreal. (And especially if you are from Toronto). But then I'm biased, as my significant other grew up in a Man U neighbourhood.
  • You mean East Sussex?
  • Actually, Chortum-Cum-Hardy in Manchester itself - but maybe it's not anymore. It apparently was for 8 year boys in the mid-80s.
  • I was in Paris for the '98 World Cup. Man, that was some top fun.
