The US obeyed an order from the Iraqi PM to withdraw from checkpoints around Sadr City in Iraq yesterday.
Sadr City is controlled by the Mahdi Army militia run by radical anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. The checkpoints were established last week as part of a search for a missing soldier, kidnapped by the militia and held in the city. The Iraqi PM told the US to scram, and our bold leaders acquiesced without a fight, abandoning one of our own.
Democrats support the troops, Republicans support the war.

I thought he wasn't missing but ran away to get married ?
-
That NYT article seem to present the marriage as somewhat unrelated background information, as I read it. He was kidnapped after the marriage, after the honeymoon, no?
-
Err, so it does. Huh. The people who said they were the missing soldier’s in-laws identified him as Ahmed Qusai al-Taei, 41. Seems kinda old for a soldier. Unless that's erroneous or I read it wrong too.
-
Sounds like he deserted. I would, too.
-
I read elsewhere that Al-Maliki played this move in part by exploiting the upcoming elections in the US; Rummy is eager to show that Iraq is in "good hands," and did not put up resistance to the order. And I may be confusing kidnappings, but as I recall he was kidnapped after-the-fact? We may need the h-dogg to clarify this issue!
-
So is this "cutting and running" or "staying the course"?
-
Depends. Are you with us or against us?
-
I blame John Kerry.
-
Apologize for that affront to my Freedomese! These brave men and women . . . it's hard! And 9/11! I thank you. *smirk*
-
briank- Last week they cut and run from staying the course. So that means this is staying the course of cutting and running. And I don't really understand how Rummy bending over for the Iraqi PM is supposed to inspire confidence. This sounds more like one of those things that could really piss off the GOP base, like the Dubai port story did, or Harriet Myers or immigration.
-
Or the cum stains on the red dress.
-
Seems kinda old for a soldier. You can join up to 42 now, can't you?
-
"But look no further, citizens. John Kerry blew a punchline and that requires a full-on media frenzy. Nothing is more fun and exciting to the kewl kidz than going after a simple meaningless anti-Democrat story that pleases the GOP establishment. Everybody wins. Except the American people, of course. Or that abandoned soldier in Iraq."
-
A force is a force, if it stays the course, And no one can force a change in course That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Preznit George. Go right to the source and ask the horse He'll tell you a lie with no remorse He's always wants to stay the course. Talk to Preznit George. People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day But Preznit George will never speak unless he has someone to flay. A horse is a horse, of course, of course, And this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse. You never heard of a talking ass? Well listen to this. I am Preznit George.
