100 Million Year Old Bee Experts believe pollen-dependent bees arose from carnivorous wasp ancestors. With the arrival of pollinating bees, flowering plants blossomed on Earth. Prior to 100 million years ago, the plant world was dominated by conifers which spread their seeds on the wind. Do we have bees to thank for all the flowers in the world? Mayhap!

Any resemblance, buzzy or otherwise, with our own Poet Lariat is entirely coincidental, liguistical and contrafooninonical.

  • You misspelled linguistical.
  • Excuse me? supports theories of bee evolution Don't they mean "Bee-volution?" bee DNA Don't they mean "Bee-NA?" Honey bees have an internal "biological clock" Don't they mean "Bee-ological clock?" Amateurs. --------------- Oh, and... The flowers that bloom in the spring, Tra la, Breathe promise of merry sunshine-- As we're merrily dancing around, Tra la, We welcome the bee that they found, Tra la, In amber, way down in a mine! And that's why we say that its fossilized wings Are welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring.
  • Carnivorous bees bee gone, And now the world's bee spoken, But the flowers bee on the lawn, And the monkeys have their bee token, Please sing us another bee song, Bee fore we too bee come beeroken.
  • I knew bees was old, but that's fuckin' ridiculous.
  • *curtsies Thank you for the flowers, Mr. Bee.
  • The Hive and the Honeybee Collection at Cornell is worth a peek, if only for sake of auld lang syne. Beekeeping these days is both rewarding and frustrating, the latter thanks primarily to infestation from close to omnipresent mites. And the stresses to bees, both wild and domestic, from pesticidess are also of concern.
  • (sorry about the age crack...)
  • Oh my goodness! I live right next to Cornell campus, and work even closer, and I didn't know all that bee stuff was going on there! That's amazing, and worth a look. Want I should steal any books for you, bees?
  • 'S OK, mate - not sensitive about my age. when plants were a new invention some wasps their chance did seize and the more they teased the flowers the more flowers fed the bees
  • Neat-o liberry, bees, thanks for the link! We knew he was wise Our poet the bees But knew not the size Of the bee histories
  • we have our songs and collective memory these go back much farther than any living bee now sleeps the hive and bees remember deep in slumber how bees once hunted fly and spider though no bee dreaming was then alive
  • Amazing.
  • 3 million bees found in Florida couple's kitchen What? They just wanted to make some coffee. Bonus: it was Jesus' apartment.
  • Invited In John Steffler God. . . interesting, keeping bees in your kitchen . . . why not I guess when you've got so many flowers around . . . they certainly make a warm sound, I said a warm sound . . . well, loud really, yes I'd love some tea, where should I put my coat? I wouldn't want to smother any, you're sure they never sting even when they crawl on your bare arms like that? No, I'm not afraid . . . smoothly, move smoothly, I understand, it feels like 90 degrees in here . . . and busy of course, I guess you never feel lonely with this going on, you do? How could you? And your goldfish! I've never seen tanks used as room dividers. Is it okay to walk right in the pool like that? no, I can see it's shallow, but wait till I take off my shoes and socks. An odd place to have your table all the same. How many kinds of flowers have you ah! I think I stepped on a fish, no, ah-ah-ah! it was just caught between my toes, even when they're in your hair they don't sting? Just some milk please. Lovely croissant. And when the fish cluster around our chairs like this? of course, they expect crumbs, I know, I know, smoothly, but how can you sit still with them nibbling your feet? I keep thinking it's jazz on your stereo, I said I keep thinking you've got some fabulous jazz on your stereo . . . god, I'm in love with you.
