ITunes code "cracked"
Adds extra layer of "copy protection". Real Soon Now -- shop around for your iPodian needs.

Ha ha, take that, Jobs, you scabby old wanker!
-
Kickass.
-
Not to piss on the parade, but wasn't this not-really news three weeks ago, with previous news stories going back to 2003 about the same guy breaking the encryption?
-
This is not just breaking the encryption, which is what happened with hymn and jhymn. This is reverse engineering the copy protection so that they can sell their own music and videos with copy protection that the ipod recognizes. However, the thing I don't get is how any of this is different from what Real Networks has been doing for a few years. I just suppose they have DVD Jon which leads to publicity.
-
DVD Jon is Super Dreamy.... *sighs*

> Johansen doesn't appear to be concerned, as indicated by the title of his personal blog: So Sue Me. i think there's more to his choice of name than that. mac os 7 introduced the system sound sosumi, which was a nod to the ongoing legal battles between apple computer and the beatles's apple corps.

Sw33t. Hacker news is always cool, especially of this magnitude. I would be damn happy to borrow some things off of radio broadcasts so that I could listen to them 'untethered' from the Internet or iPod.
-
Since I don't own an iPod nor do I buy from iTunes, I has no idea that Apple was such a scumbag corporation. Songs downloaded from iTunes can't be played on any other portable device? Really? Why do people love this company so much?
-
iPod older than previously thought

rocket88, Songs bought from the iTMS can only be played on portables connected to an approved computer (of which you can have 5) or on the computer itself, or can be burned to CD (with some restrictions). It's a compromise. It should be enough to cover most people's household computers but not their friends. And it was the deal that Apple could get from the labels. The landscape before it happened was different. I'm perfectly happy to buy $0.99 songs from iTMS and have a few restrictions that don't interfere with my actual use of the music as opposed to buying a CD that costs $9.99 to $16.99 and has maybe 4 good songs and 4-8 filler songs on it.
-
As someone who likes to share his music with friends (as in the old school share: put the spinny things into their music boxes when visiting or lending) iTMS is pretty useless to me. 'Sides, I don't know of many bands/composers/music things with only a few good songs. They're either good or they aren't. Just my 99 cents. Hell, I don't even use any of those free MP3 offers you get from time to time. I think I've probably thrown away over one hundred free downloads in card form. I wonder if they were some sort of rip off?

App Store, Hacked. (Updated: iTunes Accounts too.)
