Smile (A Dental Drama)
is as great as any comic about orthodontics can be.
Note: most links stolen from this interesting livejournal post. SMILE (bookmarkable link) is an autobiographical comic about dealing with the pains of middle school and dentistry. In some ways, it's a lot like For Better or for Worse, but without all the things about For Better or for Worse that are cloying and irritating (well, okay, SMILE also spells "have to" as "hafta," but I'll let that one slide). To put it another way, it has humor, drama, continuity (in a webcomic? Gasp!), and characters that are easy to empathize with. For more information about the artist, Raina Telgemeier, visit her homepage or livejournal, or even this scholastic.com page for her latest project. By the way, she's engaged to the cartoonist Dave Roman.

That was actually pretty good. I'm always impressed when people can remember the dramas of 7th grade. I think I blocked most of it out.

Great post.

Nicely FPP'd also too, btw.

My "meh" is a thread killing word. It is true I am the Kwisatz Haderach! Now I need me a worm to kick some ass!

THREAD: REVITALIZE! 'Smile' didn't hold me, maybe because it's rooted in too much prepubescent trauma for my liking. I do like the illustrative style, tho. Sunday is a good day for webcomics such as... Qwantz for the paleontologically (with an emphasis on 'ontologically') inclined, Achewood for the achy (and cynical), Diesel Sweeties for 8-bit indie-rockin', Maakies for the Drinky Crows, ArtSchool Webcomics for the art-schooled, Questionable Content for the collegiate rank, Penny Arcade for the g33k in you, Cat and Girl for Tracicle (who likes cats, as I understand), and Perry Bible Fellowship is for everyone! Got any webcomic recommendations, Monkeys? Have fun!

Ah, this thread has it. =)

Apparently there's an interview of Raina and Dave by Winter McCloud, who's 11. Highlights include Dave explaining the engagement comic while he has a bear on his head.
