Cut 'em out and fold 'em up in all of their intricate glory. Those who can be trusted with scissors can make The Globe Theater, the Taj Mahal, or the crazily complex 3-page Mississippi Riverboat (Warning, sappy e-cards also thrown in.)

If you're of a more musical bent, you can make this cool piano or clavichord at another site. Geeks (if you know any) can print and create your own tiny arcade. Bring your own glue and lots of patience.

  • Very nice, Lara. You Monkeys, please remember: No running with the sissors!
  • ))) - and many thanks, Lara!!!
  • Holy cow, that's awesome. Thanks!
  • I love this stuff! More papercraft fun can be found at Paper Forest and PaperKraft. If you're looking for something more challenging, there's always this little goodie from Howl's Moving Castle.
  • I love papercraft, and paper Lovecraft. I'm still looking for a good Cthulhu origami project. This dragon for Gathering for Gardner is neat, and I have one myself. Watch this to see the dragon's illusion.
  • Crazy. Cool.
  • I'm wearing the tiara right now. Thank you, Lara!
  • oooh, nunia, there's a picture/sculpture in the British Library (basement IIRC) that has a similar effect. It looks like a room with loads of full bookshelves, but the angle of the bookshelves follow you as you walk by. It was really amazing, and I had to expend alot of effort to actually see how the illusion was done - quite similar techniques to the dragon.
  • Holy Howls Moving Castle!
  • Very nice. They have big versions of that dragon in the exhibition attached to the Edinburgh Camera Obscura (worth a look if you're ever there).
  • Wow, Neddy. I think I'd get creeped out under those circumstances. There is a similar phenomenon in the busts at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. They follow you as you walk by. Creepy. Of course, I am now more creeped-out that Disney insists on taking my fingerprints at the front door. Bastages.
  • Come on, nunia. They only need your fingerprints in case they need to identify your body after you get caught in the gears of "It's a Small World". Gheesh!
  • There's a video here showcasing the "hollow face illusion", nunia and Alnedra.
  • If anyone wants to make any cool halloween paper crafts, ravensblight.com has a cool set of haunted paper toys to make: tiny coffins, as well as an entire haunted house and a graveyard. I made all three last year, but they got smooshed. I may try again.
  • Undead Chess! Tenacious Pettle is totally getting that for his birthday next year.
