The new food fad: Black Tomatoes.
Eggheads have slaved over a hot greenhouse for years to produce the Kumato. It's black, it's from Galapagos, and it makes your reptiles sexy. Eat one today!

Interesting to find new foods, or familiar food wearing new clothing, so to speak. I'll no doubt try these at some point, but it's the flavor of a foodstuff rather than the color makes me decide if I want it in my life or not.

while in spain as a high school student, i had the chance to eat squid cooked in tomato sauce. the ink sacs from the squid had not been removed, turning the tomato paste black. the color really threw me off... it is, quite possibly, the only food i've ever encountered that i didn't like because of the visual aspect, rather than flavor or texture. not quite sure how i'd feel about a naturally black tomato, but i can imagine heinz coming out with yet another nauseating color of ketchup sometime soon...

Oooh! Hopefully it won't make my reptiles sexy to *me*. Yum -- a good excuse to buy/eat more tomatoes!
-
The big question: "kumatos" or "kumatoes"?
-
You say Kumato, I say Kumatoe...
-
Has anyone had a chance to try these? Where is Miguel when you need him--can some Mefi talk him into signing up here? If anyone had tried these it would likly be him.
-
But is it as good as tomacco?
-
It's interesting to hear that tortoises shop at Sainsbury's. While looking around for "related" infoarmation I found this.

Dr. Zira: It's interesting that the tomacco wasn't reported as widely as it's inventer thought it would be. mexican: I guess Rufus has had some success :)
