Is your brain male or female?
An online test from the BBC accompanying a recent programme. I scored zero, which makes me exactly androgynous, but I think I rushed some of the tests (the whole thing takes 20 minutes). Some other recent views.
-
I'm apparently 50 towards the female side, whereas I am a male. Dosen't surprise me at all, everyone says I am a lesbian trapped in a guys body.
-
I'm 50 towards the male side, whereas I am a feme. But then, I have a spatial advantage. I totally pwnd that block thing and that angle thing. And maps? Duh. Feelings are for chumps.
-
I scored 50 towards the girl side, but I couldn't be bothered to try on the matching the shape to the other shape part. It's too early in the day :)
-
One's score weighed on the masculine. Somewhat low for expression recognition. One is not surprised! :-{
-
Supposedly 100% undeniably male. But the word association part was bunk. I named waaaay more than one word for each.
-
FiftyPoints...100% dude. Word.
-
I scored like, right down the middle on almost everything. I guess I'd better keep the subscriptions to both Spike TV and Lifetime.
-
And how come I didn't get extra girl points for measureing my finger ratio with the tape measure from my sewing basket?
-
What? You didn't use vernier calipers, TUM? You're such a chick.
-
I totally had to stop because I don't have a ruler handy. No fair.
-
Does my bum look big in this? *twirls*
-
Your bum looks great. Your hobo, however, should wear vertical stripes instead of horizontal ones.
-
Rolypolyman clocks in at 27 male, and avoids having to E-mail tracicle to get a sex change to rolypolylady. I thought it was a bit stimulating picking out the attractive people, but I started getting alarmed when I started seeing the same faces over and over and realized they were mixing in faces from other sexes. I was actually hoping to learn something about what facial features were attracting my notice, but, well, it's not the point of the test I know.
-
I got 25 female, somehow - I blame using a touchpad instead of a mouse on the first part (I mis-clicked the lines a few times). Apparently my ring fingers are exceptionally manly, though.
-
I got bored and failed to finish the test. Is that a boy thing or a girl thing?
-
It's more in the arena of Dieter from Sprockets. "Your test has become tiresome!"
-
25% Female. But I'm all man, I swear! I blame my user name.
-
Dead center, just like plegmund.
-
Hey layne, I'd trade with you, but I kinda like being manly. But I'll let you borrow my manliness, if you ever need it. Just make sure you wash it before you give it back.
-
Your hobo, however, should wear vertical stripes instead of horizontal ones. hee, hee.
-
50 points on the boy side, not very surprising to me...
-
so i'm more henry morgan than grainne mhaol, arr. i used a 5 metre metal tape measure to measure my fiercely masculine fingers and identify their .97 ratio. i'm about 30 on the male side (does it give a number anywhere?). the eye recognition thing says this:which leads me to question, why is this in the test? if men get 6.6, and women get 6.6, why bother?
-
I measured my finger in Smoots on a ruler carved from the thighbone of mine enemy.
-
50 on the female side, but I totally fudged the measuring bits, and gave up on the 3D shapes bit cos that's too much work, yo. Apparently my hands are manly, though, since my ring finger is a lot longer than my ring finger. Damnit. Also, I'd like to state that looking at the 'attractive men', most of them were unattractive, and one looked so much like my cousin (who I love, but he's my cousin!) that I could hardly make myself choose the least enthusiastic options. I'm tempted to take it again to see what "the ladeis" look like...
-
I'm female, and I scored 50 male, though I wonder if that should be higher since when reviewing the scores, I think I was far too focused on how much better I did that the average whichever that usually did highest - for example, that first one I got 18 out of 20, when average for men is 15.1. Then on the rotation thing, I got 10 out of 12. For further ego stroking, it asked "Are you an engineer or do you have a science background?" Nope, not yet - though who knows once I go back to school. ;-)
-
Livi, I totally second you on the attractiveness thing. For some of them, I had to think "which would I be less afraid of in a dark alley." If those were my only choices, I'd probably become a lesbian.
-
I had the same reaction to the attractiveness thing. One set of pictures looked way too much like a family friend who has been firmly out of the "cute" box my whole life (ie, he may as well be related). Ick.
-
25 on the male side and I'm female. I wonder if it changes with age, since I'm also old.
-
-
> It seems that almost everybody answered £25. i asked for 30. from the other person's point of view, 20 quid is 20 quid :-)
-
Neat link. I got 50 male, although I couldn't do the hand part for lack of a ruler. I got 11/12 on the rotation part -- and I screwed up the one because I rushed it, thinking I had less time than I did. On the other hand, I did very poorly on the scattered objects. And I overwhelmingly preferred feminine faces for attractiveness. No surprise there. mare, I chose 25, but remember that that's an average.
-
WHAT 50% female? But I'm a guyyy. Hrm, k. I blame my affinity for eyes. I got 9/10 correct... Yes, I can empathize, so what? DD: Interesting test.
-
> Spot the difference >This task tested your ability to identify which objects changed position. You lost points, if you incorrectly identified objects. >Your score: 64% >Average score for men: 39% >Average score for women: 46% >What does your score suggest? >If you scored between 0 - 33%: You may have more of a male brain. [...] >If you scored between 34 - 66%: You may have a balanced female-male brain. >If you scored between 67 - 100%: Those with a female-type brain generally score in this range. What? From their own numbers, females generally don't have female-type brains, males don't generally have male-type brains.

Mind Hacks had a few recent relevant posts on gender differences of the brain. August 09, 2006: Sex in the Brain and August 10, 2006: More on Gender Disparity come immediately to mind. There's a link from Mind Hacks to a interesting scienceblog post on Pure Pedantry blog entitled Debunking the Upper Tail: More on the Gender Disparity which is worth a read.

25 Male. Which is a nice score. Still manly, but not a knuckle-dragger. Kicked ass on the 3D rotation -- 11/12. Nice!
-
*looks at own score* *looks at own knuckles* *can't dispute Capt*
-
I scored at 0... I guess it's cause I did pretty well at everything, both male and female tasks! I am, in fact, male.
-
I've been too busy or too tired to sit down and take the test. Guess I will remain in a state of gender confusion for a while longer. *attempts to get dressed, can't remember if zipper goes in front or on the side *sighs
-
50 male, just like 6 months (or is it 12 or 18) ago.
-
50 male? But I love musical theatre!
-
50 males would make an awesome chorus line.
-
Like digital_me, I was at 0 because I can write, read emotions and recognize spatial orientation - which is kind of what you would expect from a male librarian who plays sport and computer games. I think I scored slightly female before.
-
Verdict: ambisextrous.

Bees for the win!

Verdict: ambisextrous. *blink* Must resist urge to make joke...must resist...
