Bay Area (Berkeley?) Meetup
Plans are afoot for some kind of meeting of the monkeys and monkey-like people this coming Saturday (8/12). Nothing definite yet, but it seems like it maybe something in the 7 o'clock range, location as yet to be determined.
With the potential promise of Oogabooga, professional eyebrow waggler, international man of mystery. This monkey is visiting for the weekend.
-
I have an audition on Saturday, so a Bay trip is not gonna happen. :(
-
have fun, I can't make this one :(
-
goddamn it, i think i am gonna go. i might even bring a friend who is one of those lurker-monkeys... where at? what sort of activity?
-
cheesy!! how are you baby? (how's the thumb?)
-
Where when?
-
Woot! Here's what we're working with so far: dashiv and wimpdork can arrive sometime after 6, oogabooga has to leave by 10. Location is something I'll let you people who know where stuff is figure out.
-
I can probably make it, I'm living down in the Peninsula now but Berkeley's not too far off. Absolutely no suggestions as to where to go as I've only been up to Berkeley once, sorry. I'd presume some sort of place that has beverages and food?
-
I have previous plans, but could probably drop by if you end up in SF rather than the East Bay. This is just an FYI; as I'm a maybe, please don't bother factoring my desire for an SF location into the planning process.
-
You damn people have way too many meetups, you all look sexy and hot and young, and you have better cameras than I do. I hate you with the heated passion of a thousand suns.
-
Well, if we can't buy RTD a ticket to SFO, the least you can do is give him a really good shout-out. Something he can show his grandchildren.
-
heya snakehead...i am good, my pinky [not thumb] is all healed, i have a less than impressive scar, unfortunately. i had a crazy month thinking about moving to the east coast, but i am staying put thank god. actually going to start looking to put down roots here instead, which is what i really want. we should bowl again sometime soon...
-
oh sure, havent' I had enough humiliation for one year???
-
hehehe, snakes on a head.... name your sport then? lawn darts? polo? ballroom dancing?
-
*Sigh* I hate to say it, but it's looking like I can't make it this Saturday. Sorry everyone :(
-
*sobs*
-
ok I love "snakes on a head" I can't believe I hadn't even thought of that one ;) my sports? ah, beer drinking!! seriously....ah! bourbon quaffing...heehee I ride my bicycle regularly. have you ever gone riding at the berkeley marina? it's really nice, lotsa kites try to decapitate you as you ride around :P I love to go out dancing (I am a baaaadass dancer) but I don't know ballroom... I guess I'm really not a sports person tho...more of a drunkard ;)

mandyman in her wisdom is urging me to suggest a Berkeley meetup venue. I'm extremely undereducated in the bar and nightlife scene but here are a couple suggestions to "get the ball rolling", as they say. The Albatross could be fun except it is too far from BART. If people are coming in from Oakland or SF, that would be a problem. (There are buses, but who likes buses?) Jupiter is the standard downtown Berkeley bar. It's reasonably swanky. The only negative would be if people have already been there and want to try something new. Triple Rock Brewery is a short walking distance from downtown BART and more low-brow and beer-centric than Jupiter. I guess my top recommendation is Jupiter unless people can certify that it's no problem whatsoever to get to the Albatross. Any other suggestions?
-
Oh, Beckett's Irish Pub seems good too, and is also located very close to downtown BART. If people like the whole Irish thing. And everyone does, every single one of you, so there's something to mull over.
-
oh come one! you're not going to the Starry Plow???
-
Citysearch is full of cranky reivews about everything. Where's the help in that?
-
Beckett's is nice. its also located very near bart and a variety of other sociallizing venues. I think there is some big pool hall/bar thingy right around there too... /sucks at pool too *sigh*
-
So did we ever decide on a place? I might still be able to come, just need a little advance warning. :)
-
Hey I'm mandyman. LA-DEE-DA. Look at me, I have m's in my name!! We shall meet at Beckett's at 7pm. Sometime later, we might go crash the bejesus out of the Death Cab for Cutie concert at the Greek Theater up the hill. So bring knives. Big ones! Send me an email if you're going to come. We'll swap phone numbers for general purposes. (posted by flongj who has hijacked mandyman's account)
-
First off, I had nothing to do with anything. Now, since mandyman's recent post was obscure at best, here's a clarification. We'll meet at Beckett's--here's a map--starting at 7pm. There's some possibility of moving to another location so give us a call if you're coming but might be late, or if you're just plain coming, or if you're lost, or if you're feeling kinda blue. Send an email to me or mandyman to exchange phone numbers.

Concerts at the Greek theatre! Woo! Do it! Bring something soft to sit on or someone to lean against, but otherwise it's a great venue.
-
Ah, sorry to not show up - there was much tiredness in the household last night, and driving up to Berkeley was just a bit too much. Hope y'all had fun, we'll try to make it next time.
-
I demand pictures!
-
There are only 5.
-
Ambrosia was there as well, but her pic turned out blurry--something to do with a curse put on her regarding digital cameras while in Indonesia. In spite of the curse, we had a most excellent time and got to hear a few tales from Ambrosia's travels.
-
Oh, is ambrosia home again? I got a great postcard from her last week.
-
It was lovely to see everyone, despite my photo-cursedness. *shakes fist at digital photo gods*
