Why Can't Everybody Have a Preacher Like This?
  • Christ, I hate java.
  • I loathe Sumatra.
  • A comparison is made between the parts of the rifle and the qualities of a good soldier of the Lord. After hearing this message every time one sees a rifle he is reminded that that there is no Honorable Discharge from God
  • I picture him preaching to a few old fogeys who actually know (or care) who John Wayne was. If you weren't into that sort of thing, getting the Word from a guy with a rifle might make you wonder if the message was coming across as intended, Pilgrim. Someone who channeled Cary Grant would be a lot more appealing to me.
  • The fact that Texas constantly reminds us "not to mess" with it somehow reminds me of some schoolyard bully telling you to not cross a line in the sand or he'll kick your ass. Kinda of pathetic and creepy at the same time.
  • No, I want a preacher like this. (NSFW, thanks blort).
  • Squidranch: Yep, completely. I have only been through Texas once, for the fourth of July. It wasn't a bad experience, but everyone there just kept telling me that they were celebrating the nation of Texas, and it was mostly an excuse to blow stuff up. Which is cool and all, but for it to be ingrained into their independant identity does seem a little juvenile. That being said, a John Wayne preacher seems pretty cool, but I am not, like...religious, so I think anything that makes churches seem like some hokey gag is pretty cool. Disclaimer: I do not intend to demean all Texans, but I can think of a few prominent *kaff*bush*kaff* ones that take their Texnithity very seriously, and to say I dont see eye-to-eye with them.
  • Mmm. Nothing soothes me like someone waviung a rifle around and telling me he his imaginary friend is an all-powerful diety. My, that's never lead to problems. I find the Alamo analogy amusing, since Wayne, unlike less swaggering actors (James Stewart, for example), he dodged his chance to serve in the "national interest."
  • rodgerd, love the link. Seems we had "Chicken Hawks" even in WWII.
  • I want a preacher like this NOT SAFE FOR WORK.
  • Those are some really creepy boobs, BigCalm.
  • hmmm...i have a man here who thinks john wayne was the greatest gift to MANkind....he would probably go to church just for that reason alone. i always remind him that john wayne wore make-up and had hairdressers etc to tend to him....but that doesn't count....john wayne was a REAL man! *sigh*
