Curious George: Blog question. Which of the free blogs allows forward-chronological order of posts, i.e. where a visitor sees the beginning of a story first? This is for a stupid personal project. I tried Googling but came up dry.
  • Also I meant a hosted blog... not Wordpress or the like as I don't want it on any of my sites.
  • Why would we want to see the end of the story first? I've sort of gotten used to that, but I'd really rather read a story in order without doing a lot of scrolling.
  • path, most blogs post the newest content (ie. the end of the story) at the top. I think rolypolyman is looking for a blog where the chronology is oldest-to-newest, not vice versa. I don't know any offhand, but you could use backdating to make entries appear in the order you want.
  • Sorry, I was still so pissed off about the Iraq situation that I miss-scanned the question. Creeping out, now.
  • Sites like Blogger use dates to sort the posts. (earliest first) Just change the dates of your posts to any order that toots yer horn.
  • you could use backdating to make entries appear in the order you want Ummm....er... what tracicle said
  • Movable Type does, so probably TypePad as well. However, TP isn't free. You may have to find a free MT host, or a cheap one. MT Entries sorting attributes
sort_by - Specifies the field to sort the list by. Recognized values are "title," "status," "modified_on," "author_id," and "excerpt." The default is the authored on date. sort_order - Specifies the sort order and overrides the General Settings. Recognized values are "ascend" and "descend."
  • Lucky we all use the default style, islander! I doubt a free hosted blog would have that option, rolypolyman. I'm sure a number of free self-hosted systems would let you do that. Failing that, you could (horror of horrors) just write it in HTML! Copy and paste the day code, enter todays date, not so bad at all.
  • Okay, Wordpress can be tweaked: here are instructions for editing the template to change sort order for posts. (Search within that page for "sort_order" -- it's about two-thirds down.) The MoFi blog is Wordpress. It's free and easy to set up, but be sure to set up good spam prevention.
  • Aaaand I finally saw the bit where you said no Wordpress. Sorry.
  • Islander! How do you do that?!
