Curious George. Euro Trip!

My little sister who is 20 years old and American would like to go over to Europe for 3 or 6 months and work part time and travel. I know there are programs in place for students to travel abroad and work without studying. My Google Fu is not too strong and I am having trouble finding her links where she can apply for something like this. Can you help me?

  • here's one for ireland i don't think it'd be possible to find a general program for europe, as a permit to work in ireland probably won't allow the holder to work in germany. your sister might consider basing herself and working in one place and taking trips to others.
  • Americans don't qualify for the general UK working holiday visa program, but there is this page which suggests there is another program which includes Americans so long as they are full time students - bunac.org.
  • If your sister is in college she should try going through it. Here at ISU they have an office set up to specifically help students with such programs. They help find housing, find jobs, and give class credit. If she's going to a big university, especially a state school, there is probably a similiar office available there.
  • BUNAC. I went to London for six months with a good job and nice place to live. Best thing I ever did, ever. BUNAC is helpful, friendly, and a good way to get anywhere. Tell her to do it. Best. Thing. Evar. /waves to London Monkeys
  • *waves back* It's always good to find out about foreign trips like this. My degree was CE(E) (Computer Engineering (Europe)), and that E on the end meant I got a paid semester living and studying in Flensburg, Germany. Lifelong friends and memories!
