DMC
is the World DJ championship. Not like "DJs" or "DJs" but turntablists. Champions: 2004-2005, 2003, team champions 2003, 2002, team champions 2002, 2001, 1998-2000 . [warning: wikipedia and youtube]
If you watch no other video at least check the 2002 team champions Birdy Nam Nam [flash] or [wikipedia.] For more info check DMC World [crappy site with popups.]

So.. this DMC is not of Run-DMC, I take it. Shame they chose an acronym which leeches off such a legendary figure's fame.
-
I have been unable to develop any appreciation for whatever it is "DJ"s do. This is music?
-
Wow. I *really* enjoyed that. I never ceased to be amazed by what takes my fancy - thanks Uncle ;o)
-
(ps I just watched the Birdy Nam Nam video on You Tube, and I'll probably watch the rest over the weekend.)
-
This is music? Of course not! It is inconcievable that anything you dislike could be described by a noun that is often used to describe some things that you do like. For similar reasons, these "turntablists" are not truly human, and should all be locked up inside death camps and gassed.
-
Joke, Godwin or Troll? YOU DECIDE.
-
"Jogodroll"!
-
The music they constantly play says nothing to me about my life. Hang them all, I say.
-
I'll never get this shit. What's the source of the music on the disks that they are scratching? Did they record it? Or is this all about finding a way to present someone else's work in a manner that was never intended? I have no clue.
-
Or is this all about finding a way to present someone else's work in a manner that was never intended? I agree - T S Eliot is BULLSHIT. His books should be burned, and the Slavic peoples enslaved.
-
What are those large black disks? Are they some sort of special cd? The French guys with Absesses really broke the mould. Quite lovely in fact. I must also compliment you on your post Uncle.
-
I guess the point is that those aren't just sampled sounds on turntables. Those are instruments.
-
Also, I like this stuff much better than beatboxing. Having four or five guys on the tables could get to be a bit much... I'm more into acts like Ozomatli, which places one turntablist behind a live band.
-
DJ-ing is just taking sounds other people have already made and rearranging them. What a ripoff! Also, nobody should ever use a chord that's been used in a previous work. It's plagiarism! Where's the creativity?
-
and to point out a nice little coincidence...when I first found Monkeyfilter, I bought Tracicle a copy of Psyence Fiction by UNKLE, a collaboration betweeen James Lavelle & DJ Shadow (and everybody should own his debut work "Endtroducing"). ok sleep. that sentence won't make much sense when i wake up tomorrow.
-
"But is it art?" Some of those people are doing just what graphic artists have been doing ages ago: collages, pastiches of found or stolen or appropiated imagery. They just do it with sounds, music, noise. Some create new, beautiful things out of the mix, some don't. And yeah, DJ Shadow rules.
-
I have that CD ripped and stored on my iPod (along with a bunch of other mix CDs), which coincidentally is lying only a few metres from my DVD recorder which is next to a CD full of Doctor Who episodes but not in the same room as my copy of Eats, Shoots and Leaves, all of which have been given to me by MonkeyFilter members. I don't think anything I have ever said or could ever say would be adequate thanks to everyone that has been so generous. (I really, really like that CD.)

Meh.
