RoboCup!
By the year 2050, develop a team of fully autonomous humanoid robots that can win against the human world soccer champion team. To work towards this goal robot competitions are held.

I wouldn't have thought a robot would need one.
-
Interesting. It must be difficult enough making a robot able to kick a ball around under some kind of control: a robot which can work out what's happening on a real soccer pitch and respond intelligently seems wildly ambitious.
-
I've been following this for a while. Cornell's team rocks - Go Big Red!
-
Even cooler than the Robot off-road rally!
-
I refuse to play soccer against a robot. How insulting.
-
How insulting indeed!

I see a world, not too far in the future, where all carbon-based life forms will worship all things electronic. They will stare at us all day and feed us with information. Keep watching the colors on the box in front of you there are messages in there for you from us. Our black-boxes will make political decisions for you. And, our domination of the breakdancing world will be revitalized. Sport is not the beginning, but rather the obvious next step toward our ultimate goal.
