The Evolution of Dance (YouTube video) Judson Laipply's finale on his "Inspirational Comedy" speaking engagements, called by some "the funniest 6 minutes you'll ever see." It may not be the funniest I've seen, but it is fun. A (very) little more about Laipply can be found here.
  • I knew I should have gotten into human movement, sport and lesiure studies...
  • Whoosh- that must've been exhausting.
  • That was pretty amusing actually.
  • Definitely not the funniest six minutes I've ever seen, but a great watch. I didn't realize exactly what he was doing for the first two songs, but once I got the gist, I had a smile on my face the entire way through. I wish it would've been longer, but fish tick is right. That musta been very exhausting indeed. Great post!
  • dude is a GREAT dancer. I am utterly impressed. that was skill. it was decently funny, but that was skill...I was disappointed at the exclusion of the hustle however.
  • i dont recall seeing the 'mashed potato' either...or much from fosse, twyla, or graham...fun though...really noticing here how whenever you say something is the funniest or 'best', everyone shows up to say why not...;-) btw, i dance like that and i have plenty of witnesses...working on a 'batman' number at the moment...
  • I absolutely *require* some video footage of yr dance performance SR!!
  • Huh, he went to my school. Neat. Also, fun video!
  • Very impressive. I was hoping that he would come back to Elvis in the end, showing how all (cultural) evolution seems to be circular.
  • I was actually hoping for that, too... but it was still fun.
  • also there was very little waltzing...and no macarena? come on!
  • He did the macarena, just not when the actual song was playing. I have to say, when the macarena, chicken dance, etc. were all popular, not only did a large number of my cousins get married off...but I was young enough to sufficiently enjoy them. Some of us are just lucky!
  • we sure are: not only did I get to learn square-dancing in 6th grade gym class, I got to learn the hustle too :)
  • wow! 6th grade!? I didn't learn to hustle until I was much older...
  • yes, IN GYM CLASS. it was weird. /do the hustle!
  • Medusa, did you go to my school? We learned the hustle in gym class, too.
  • are you from New Jersey?
  • Nope. I guess all school kids had to learn the hustle. Must have been relevant to something in our future...
  • and that something must still be in the future...
  • I wanna know what kind of social scene my gym teacher was into that made her think we would need BOTH the Hustle AND the Virginia Reel.
  • We learned the horizontal mambo at my high school. We had a lot of teen pregnancies... A whoole lotta teen pregnancies...
  • Ah, well. i thnk I may abe missing most of those neural connections, becaused dancing is pretty foreign to me. I was married for years to a professional dancer, and while I learned to to the polka from watching others do it, and got sort of good at it, the tango made no sense to me. So now,if any of you has some scientific explanation on why I can't sing, that wouldn't cure me either, but it would be nice to read about.
