1972 Documentary on ARPAnet, the precursor of the modern internet. This is a Google video approx 30 min. Rather piercing moog Mozart at the beginning.

Most of the people in this documentary are important figures in the history of computer science, such as Lawrence Roberts, Bert Sutherland, Robert Kahn and J.C.R. Licklider. There are developments predicted in the film that have actually come into existence a generation later, such as the electronic banking item. The film is also notable as a sort of anthropological record of the clothes and hair of the subjects. Also all the treeware all over the desks is amusing, in hindsight.

  • That one guy in there reminds me of the orientation film guy from Lost.
  • The sad part is, I remember some of that crap. Oh, painful nostalgia.
  • The awesome thing is that we wouldn't all be able to watch that video via the internet if it weren't for those guys in that video. I wish to marry a man named J.C.R. Licklider.
  • Wow. What a bunch of mad scientists!
