You heard about the recently discovered blonde furry lobster, didn't you? The Kiwa Hirsuta. Well here's a plush toy replica. Nicked from robot wisdom
  • Well, that was fast.
  • It's like the Oscars, where knockoff designers scratch and claw to see whatever the nominees are wearing so they can have something like it the next day. These makers of the faux Kiwa Hirsuta hang around in rowboats alongside oceanographic research vessels and dash off a digital image of anything good to a squadron of seamstresses at an undisclosed location where the freakadelic creature is rapidly reproduced. It's a cutthroat business. Often there's more than one rowboat of plush pirates out there competing for a good look at a new beast and vicious oar fights are often the result. Frightful, really.
  • Named 'Kiwaida' after the Polynesian goddess of crustaceans There's a goddess of crustaceans? We worship you, oh crabby one!
  • I may have to add this to my collection of plush-n-scary babies!
  • Gaaah! You could have warned us, Medusa! That one on the far left is terrifying!
  • THAT is Desperado, born out of the fiery carnage of Burning Man 2001!! and a commemoration of my meeting the then-future mr. medusa
  • I predict that the last natural blond lobster is likely to be born in Finland during 2202.
  • I reaffirm Underpants theories with this convincing citation, atgument, and some numbers. -insert complicated citation, argument and numbers-
  • *imagines diners' faces around table when blond hairy lobster is served ... first*
  • It's certainly the first lobster I've ever seen and thought "Awwww..." Lobsters are many things, but cute is rarely one of them.
  • can a blonde one have more fun? o some things are better unbegun lobster lobster flee that trap don't be beguiled by that human chap he only loves you for your fur he'll stroke your claws though you demur and try to tickle your underfur
  • other lobsters seem so frumpish far more lumpish than the blowfish and more oafish than the clownfish no geek shall overboot her no rival seek to shoot her though no fish can be cuter than my Kiwa Hirsuta
  • SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I mean, I had heard of Kiwa hirsuta - I read the BoingBoing like anyone else - but IN CUDDLY-TOY FORM???? I die of cute now.
  • Monkeyfilter: Well, that was fast. Monkeyfilter: It's a cutthroat business. Monkeyfilter: I die of cute now. etc etc, this thread is already full of 'em. ;)

  • Well, you know that two-tone lobster You know he broke my heart in two Said you know that two-tone lobster Said he bust my heart in two Now I’m left with just drawn butter Singin’ them Two-Tone Lobster Blues®
  • ... this lobster's not personable despite his vari-coloured shell his personality's quite dull at conversations he's a flop so leave him in the lobster trap but no! men brought a pot of water hot sent him where all good lobsters go
  • *throws undies at TUM* Freebird!
  • Coals to Newcastle, petebest, coals to Newcastle!
  • This is probably a dumb question but anyone know why lobsters have evolved to be red? Is there some reason yellow is a worse color for them? Just curious if anyone knows.
  • Ask the Intelligent Designer. *shakes magic 8-ball*
  • In deep blue ocean, red is black. ninja lobster.
  • In general, (Atlantic) lobsters tend toward more of a greenish hue, with mottled black, brown, and reddish patches. When cooked, the shells take on the bright "red as a lobster" hue. It is difficult to find plastic or rubber lobsters that are not red, however.
  • That makes more sense. The greensih blue with patches would blend into the ocean floor and make the lobster harder to spot. That's why I couldn't figure out the advantage to being bright red in the ocean.
