Quiznos transformed a piece of outsider art into a nationwide ad campaign. The Spongmonkeys hit the big time, in a much-discussed series of spots for a chain of sandwich shops. Apparently the little guys are not to everybody's taste.

I never realized that a fondness for goose-stepping Laibach kittens made me an aficionado of "outsider art." My, how edgy of me. [pose, pose]

  • Ahem hem hem. I posted them Laibach kittens here before this innanert thing was even populaire. What is this post all about,
  • That msn.slate is really edgy. /stupid dork
  • Mofi caught the trend before the tubers did. Bonus points. Now, what's this I hear about people wearing hats backwards?
  • I have never been to a Quiznos but I vow to stop in whenever I see one strictly because of these commercials!
  • While there's no such thing as bad publicity, the same cannot be said of their sandwiches.
  • These 'wacky' internet cartoons are a dime a dozen. Only a small percentage of the stuff in this genre is funny (and can be extremely funny); but I have yet to smile watching one of these.
  • I made a quiznos commercial post about the "raised by wolf" ones last October. The week after the Spongemonkeys commercial came out my site hits went through the roof. My blog was the number one google result for "quiznos commercial" at one point (now it's hovering around 4 or 5). People started snarking at each other in the comments (We love the mutant hamsters! If you don't love it you're a moron! We hate it! If you don't hate it you lead a sad life!). After I decided to turn the comments off to keep my blog at least somewhat safe from rabid strangers, the really rabid ones picked different posts to make comments about quiznos. I, for one, love the new commercials. I may be biased though, because "We love tha moon" is my new theme song. And really Quiznos is the best sandwich shop ever (I recommend the meatball and the chicken carbanara). My boyfriend and I ate there last night and let me tell you it was even better with the Spongemonkeys playing in my head.
  • Eating Quiznos sandwiches while the Spongemonkeys play in your head? Kimberly, are you sure YOU weren't raised by wolves? :)
  • I was watching TV with my grandmas when this came on and was VERY curious to see her response... at the end she asked: "Is there a Quizno's around here? I just thought there was a Subway?" So I think most people hardly pay attention anyway. I liked it. "They got a pepper bar!"
  • Those spongemonkeys might be all cool and hip, but they make me totally lose my appetite.
  • Then don't eat the spongemonkeys! SpongeMonkeyFilter. MoFi is to MeFi as Quiznos is to Pancakes.
  • I'm just glad the guy that made the creatures didn't get ripped off. I was kind of worried about that until today. Even lost some sleep, but I think that was only from the jingle. Hair plugs.
  • Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Sandwich! Sandwich! Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Quiznos Sub! It's a sub, ooooh, it's a sub... In the future, all adverts will be b3tan. Oh, and it's Spongmonkeys, not Spongemonkeys... Sorry. /appalling pedant
  • I went to see Electric Six simply because of the flying Viking Kittens I've got something to put in you, at the Quiznos, Quiznos, Quiznos.
  • hee hee hee. Danger, danger! High QUIZNOS!
  • I love this ad. That is all.
  • Yeah, I thought people had learned from those baby genius movies that manipulating babies' lips is creepy, and not too amusing either.
  • First subway, then Quiznos, and now Mcdonalds? The fast food joints are trying to tell us to brown bag it? What happened to going to the Portuguess deli and buying a sandwichfor $2.50?
