Tenori-On Media artist Toshio Awai and Yamaha have collaborated to develop a new digital musical instrument. A 16*16 matrix of LED switches allows everyone to play music intuitively, creating a "visible music" interface (Vide demonstration)
  • Am I the only one who gets rreeaallllyy annoyed when my browser window is automatically resized? Maybe we could start adding a warning like we do for WMVs and Flash? Regardless, it does look like a neat toy.
  • Is the marijuana sold separately?
  • Looks like a neat toy and a fun thing to fool with, but somehow I doubt it allows everyone to play music intuitively if you're 'tune challenged' to begin with.
  • Electorplankton is a similar thing by the same guy, which you can get for the Nintendo DS
  • this reminds me of the blinkenlights project, although it's sort of the reverse.
  • Reminds me of the instrument the little kid played in When the Bough Breaks.
  • He needs a third axis. There's one axis for pitch and one for time but there's no way to control tone. Every note has that same monotonous ethereal flat "pling" tone. pling pling pling-pling pling pling pling pling pling-pling. More than ten seconds of that and I need to kill something, preferably by smashing it repeatedly in the head with some kind of blinking handheld device if for no reason other than to generate some tone other than "pling". Where's the "trink"? the "groomp"? the "snartz"? the "blurmf"? the "rat-a-tat-a-tat-tat-tat"?
  • timefactor: way cool. Now, let's come up with a fourth axis and put some Einstein into this app: You buy the timefactorian cube, but the very next moment, it's a DIFFERENT CUBE! Then, when you throw it at your neighbor's cat, but accidentally overthrow it at the speed of light, it becomes younger and turns into a casio keyboard with disco percussion. Funkytown ensues.
  • MonkeyFilter: Where's the "trink"? the "groomp"? the "snartz"? the "blurmf"? the "rat-a-tat-a-tat-tat-tat"? MonkeyFilter: Funkytown ensues.
