Puppy Bowl II: The Cutening At last, with the beginning of the new year, fans from all over gather in front of the magic box to witness the culmination of what has to have been one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory. Yes Puppy Bowl will inspire, delight, and awe as this year's Players vie for the coveted MVP status. Did we mention that the underlying fuction is to promote Pet Adoption and Awareness?

My adopted pups and I will be tuning in for sure. I got the DVD of last year's and it's truly magical. Hypnotic in a good way for toddlers and stoners alike. So get out the bong and the lobster bib, teh Cut3niss is about to begin! I've also heard that ABC will have some sort of sports show on in tribute at that time

  • Weeeeee! I watched Puppy Bowl I last year, and it was soooo cute and good! When the puppies go to the bathroom on the "field," a guy in a referee costume comes out, declares a penalty, and cleans up the mess :)

  • I have no idea what the rules are, but if distance travelled counts, that poodle is a sure winner. Unless one of the springers gets a lucky neck-snapping bite in, of course.

  • I feel for you, gomi, my desire for a kitten--just one little tiny fuzzy squeaking kitty--has been immense lately. regular visits to that despicably cute website aren't helping at all :(

  • I used to have a springer spaniel, and he was the sweetest, best trained dog ever. With fuzzy ears.

  • I gotta hand it to Barry, he is showing up. But I'm still an Agatha fan, although they didn't play her as much in the second half. Kitty halftime was a great addition this year. I think they learned a few things about editing from last year - i see some more creative audio edits like crowd noise swells when the tug-o-war begins in earnest and that kinda thing.

  • Although when you think about it it's not fair because those kittens were playing under the influence of cuteness enhancing drugs, a.k.a. catniptoids.

  • Yes, but petebest, you chose a terriorist. Actually, I though Kitty Halftime was just sort of ok. They needed Siamese mixes to up the crazy quotient. And, forgive me, but I got really bored with the puppy thing when Barry wasn't riling things up. Dogs chewing on toys isn't all that interesting. And the "bowl cam?" That seemed like an act of desperation.
  • Okay I admit they went to Bowl Cam a bit too often, but really it's the zen of low-budget puppy TV that attracts, and the frequent cuts to BowlCam were working against that. If they were on top of things, they'd have thrown a rubber ball in there a few times and strapped a camera onto one of the cats.

  • > Is there a dognip version of catnip? i've always understood that anise (aniseed/licorice) is very enticing for dogs, but i've never seen the same extent of effects as catnip has on cats. my friend's dog was completely uninterested in the anise plant i once brought it.

  • OH my GOD, this has brought our newsroom to a standstill. If something crossed the wires about Barack Obama revealing himself to be the forerunner of a massive alien invasion, we'd all still be clustered around the monitors going "OOOOOHHHH PUPPIEEEEES!!!"

  • Uno the Beagle Wins Early at Westminster OK, I don't normally watch dog shows, but I flipped by as Uno was competing last night and as a beagle fan I was chuffed. (We've had them in the family off and on for generations.) He's the first beagle to win Best Hound since 1939. I was as charmed as the judge.
  • You're right, Pete! It was really mean of those Animal Planet people to put those puppies in a big room with a bunch of toys, and film the results. For shame! I was very sad to have missed the half-time show. Why oh why won't they re-broadcast Puppy Bowl? I watched clips on the official site, but it's not the same.
  • How big of a back yard would I need to keep a beagle or a beagle cross-breed?

  • Roryk, the National Beagle Club has some FAQ's about beagles and outdoor exercise. My mother's beagle is indoors most of the time, but she's an older dog so YDMMV.
