What If You Could Wear A New Face Every Day? In the tradition of Cindy Sherman, Tomoko Sawada transforms herself into someone else. Click "ID400", then explore the thumbnails.
  • Um, I hate to be un-"PC" here, but she doesn't appear to be wearing "a new face each day". She looks like exactly the same Asian woman wearing wigs and different dresses. Perhaps that's the point... Anyway, Cindy did it much, much betta!
  • Squid-- Cindy DID do it much more formally, with a far wider range of choices (faux movie stils, faux 16th century nobles, etc...) But I like the "low budget" aspect of Sawada. She relies more on the subtlety of a lip curl or a shy upwards glance or the purely delicious sheen of a teenybopper's lip gloss to show us different people. It seems so human, precisely because she does fail at times. Sherman's fun is the well-planned artifice; Sawada is more interested in the artlessness of it(?)
  • Who is Cindy Sherman? Also, you can find interesting colour photographs here, from the OMIAI link -
  • Not familiar with Cindy Sherman, so I'll look her up next. But check this out ... AnthonyGoicolea (NSFW!, unless you want co-workers thinking you're a pedophile). The amazing thing is that each person in the photo is the artist (and yes, he's really an adult!). I was pretty blown away the first time I saw these. Very strange and unsettling! From the artist statement, "...I act out childhood incidents such as fight scenes, first kisses, and deranged play dates. These works are simultaneously rooted in nostalgia and science fiction."
