Disney Buys Pixar
7.4 billion USD isn't bad for a once-struggling CG company turned superstar animation powerhouse. Disneyfication and ensuing suckitude to begin in 3... 2...
-
goddammit...
-
Well, to the extent that you can tell these things from the trailers, 'Cars' kind of looked like it was going to suck anyway...
-
And all this because you people wouldn't go and see "Chicken Little" three times in the theater. For shame.
-
But really, I don't see how Disney interference in a Pixar project could possibly result in suckitude. /pours malt liquour on ground for our fallen masterpiece, cut down before it had a chance to really live.
-
Interesting news, however, that I didn't realize when I linked that report. It appears that this deal will leave Jobs as the single biggest individual shareholder at Disney, and they're giving him a spot on the board. Could it be that Jobs is going to Apple-ize Disney?
-
The would be sweet.
-
The = That.
-
apple-ize disney?
-
There are few people on earth that I'd like to be, but Steve Jobs is one of them. Except for the cancer thing, of course.
-
Soon there will be only one company and many different divisions of it made up of former companies they've bought out...
-
You know, I bet Steve Jobs would like to be Steve Jobs, except for the cancer thing.
-
apple-ize disney? I'd like an igoofy, please. of course, if you look at his pants, Mickey has always been a one-button mouse...
-
I'd like to be him without the cancer or the God complex. Of course, Apple probably wouldn't exist had it not been for that. So no, I wouldn't like to be him.
-
So hard to analyze whether this deal is likely to be a positive or negative. Two of the most obvious angles... On one hand, this puts Teh Steve in an excellent position to influence the future direction of content control for a substantial portion of the entertainment industry. An area that would appear key to Apple's future, given their current course, and of key importance to the continued blossoming of the internet. On the other hand, this could be a most conniving plot to sideline Teh Steve's influence by sucking him into the morass that is Disney management. Shades of Ted Turner. Being the biggest minority shareholder doesn't mean you can't be completely sidelined.
-
Almost anything would improve Disney at this point. It might be a sad day for Pixar, though.
-
Now if they buy Ghibli or GAINAX ... ?
-
Hey! I just thought of a way for Disney to REALLY make some money off this deal! Finding Nemo 2, 2 1/2, 3 and 4!!! BUT, and this is the clever part, make all of them really cheaply, cut corners on storyline, animation and voice talent, AND (are you ready for this?) RELEASE THEM ALL DIRECTLY TO DVD!!! Oh, and market the EVER LOVING FUCK OUT OF THEM UNTIL ALL INTEGRITY IN THE PIXAR NAME IS COMPLETELY DEVALUED!!!
-
this puts Teh Steve Please, address him by his full title, King of Pwnage, Teh St33vz0rz.
-
>Now if they buy Ghibli or GAINAX ... ? You know Disney is working on a live-action version of Kiki's Delivery Service, right?
-
>Mickey has always been a one-button mouse... Ow.
-
**strains to avoid making a reference to Mickey Mouse corporations**
-
**Mops Mecurious mess up off the floor**
-
Looking forward to "Losing Nemo, And Then Finding Him Again", "Toy Story 3" and of course, "Monsters Ltd."
-
And the first thing Disney will do is make a movie without the voice of John Ratzenberger, thus jinxing themselves and destroying all that is good and pure in Pixarland.
-
Steve Jobs has cancer?
-

This is one big reason why Disney is stinkish lately. Apparently, creativity is for suckers as far as they're concerned.
-
memories ...
-
The first against the wall... I'd call it a good start.
-
Whoa. According to regulatory filings in the US, the Disney-Pixar deal gives Mr Lasseter creative control over all of the two studios' animated film output, while still maintaining Pixar's independence. Whoa. Uh... I take it all back. I think Pixar may have taken over Disney.
-
I think Pixar may have taken over Disney. There's hope after all -- no Toy Story 3!
