Underground History
- disused stations on the London underground
-
Also, here are some pictures of the Glasgow Underground (link taken from a recent metafilter thread)
-
For example, look through the window as you travel between Tottenham Court Road and Holborn on the Central Line and you'll see a station - where no passengers have alighted since 1932. I do that every time I take the central line and I never notice it. Sometimes I think I do, but I'm never quite sure if I'm just imagining it

Aldwych is the one from Spy School, right?
-
Wow. That bears repeating. Wow. I never should have opened this link at work - I can't stop reading!
-
That's where we keep our dragons.

I've always thought this whole subject was fascinating. I saw a documentary on Down Street Station a couple years ago. In the early days of World War 2 as German bombs rained down, prime minister Winston Churchill and his ministers used Down Street as an emergency headquarters before a purpose-built bunker was ready.

Drat, didn't read far enough in the Down Street bit on the original link to see the tub was mentioned. Ignore my link.
-
So when are they going to get the rest of that ugly southern shithole underground and grass over it? Great link dng :D
-
I love this stuff. London needs to reopen a few of these, York Way would be a good start. Thx dng.
