Crossing the beams of hipness. Belle & Sebastian, long the lords and gods of the painfully hip and assorted introverts everywhere, are putting out a Graphic Novel, or rather, one is being put out by various artists based on B&S songs.

Set your Cool-O-Meter to 'overload'. Something tells me B&S is about to jump the shark.

  • hysterical. i can't laughing. oh, there we go. apparently, a good solution to laughter is to stare at the sun.
  • there's already been a live action telly series and a cartoon.
  • Too bad Liefeld isn't with Image anymore; his illustrated version of 'Expectations' would be EXTREME TO THE MAXXXX!!! Or would that be EXTWEEME?
  • Oh, dear. And here I was all excited that B&S is coming to my town on tour in two months. Now I have to rethink my adoration...I mean seriously, graphic novel?
  • Oh, jeebus. They'll be near me on tour as well. Now I have to weigh my love for them against my sheer loathing of sharing them with others. Hmm.
  • Next up: a line of B&S-inspired Magic: The Gathering cards!
  • there's already been a live action telly series and a cartoon. posted by roryk at 04:55PM UTC on January 18, 2006 Belle, the Great Pyrenees from their namesake reminds me of Mr Tadakichi, from another animated series, Azumanga Daioh. Tadakichi is also a Great Pyrenees. Meanwhile, on the anime/indie rock connection, I recently discovered another uberhip Scottish indie rock band called The Delgados when they did the opening track for the anime Gunslinger Girl.
  • Is B&S really still hip, or have I just seen too many New York fashionista-hipsters lately?
  • Also, I can't believe we as a society still use the term "hip" when perfectly good superlatives like "tubular" have been relegated to the dustbin.
  • I like gnarly. I also recall "thrashin'" from around 5th grade or so, as in "that song Devil Inside, by INXS is totally thrashin'!!!" Something to do with riding skateboards I think...
  • B&S is still vaguely cool. At least they lasted longer than trucker hats.
  • bogus! bitchin'! and grody! They'll be back in the lexicon in no time, mark my words.
  • B&S is still vaguely cool. At least they lasted longer than trucker hats. I knew trucker hats had jumped the shark when I found a brown trucker hat with the google logo on it at a garage sale.
  • bogus! bitchin'! and grody! Pale in comparison to your attempts to bring back "homeslice," for which I salute you nightly, homeslice.
  • "Is B&S really still hip, or have I just seen too many New York fashionista-hipsters lately?" It's still hip in the way that people can make casual reference to it not having a clue what they're talking about, and not embarrass themselves. It's not hip in terms of being new and cutting edge. It's like girls still ordering Cosmos -- it's an easy drink to make reference to and no-one will make a faux pas by ordering it, but all the cool girls moved onto Sidecars a long time ago.
  • "bogus! bitchin'! and grody! They'll be back in the lexicon in no time, mark my words." Whatever, dickweed.
  • Totally wicked burn, Capt., like to the max.
  • Homeslice.
  • I dig you hep cats.
  • Chill on the 'homeslice'. You're spazzin' out, gaylord.
  • Scrub
  • Barf me out and gag me with a spoon, you are like, major lame. Don't make me pull your fag tag.
  • Cherry, homeslice! You ranked him.
  • B&S have BECOME the shark, have become the jump. Rutabaga.
  • Something tells me B&S is about to jump the shark. Why? Has Ted McGinley joined the band?
  • Haha, this is an odd coincidence. I did this a couple of weeks ago, for my website, using the words from a Belle and Sebastian song I had much more fun with anArab Strap song, though I do not do my own artwork, either, so I am a complete thief, but I amuse myself, at least, so I am not entirely worthless
  • Well done, dng. And you can share a cell in Copyright Infringement Gaol with kit.
  • Hurrah! I bet the quidnunc kid is jealous now
  • phree teh monkeyphilter 2!
  • Nice work dng! Kinda reminds me of when those incongrous Smiths lyrics would crop up in Tank Girl
