The Frank W. Tober Collection on Literary Forgery
covers many classic forgeries - the works of Ossian, Chatterton's Rowley poems, William Henry Ireland's bogus Shakespeare, as well as others I had never heard of.
In the latter category is Psalmanazar the 'Native of Formosa', who even ran up his own Formosan alphabet.
-
"'Forging'" a collection!" Heehee. I love cheesy puns.
-
Been meaning for years to learn more about Chatterton's work. Such a strange life. Thanks, Plegmund!
-
That Psalmanazar guy reminds me of Princess Caraboo.
-
If 'tis to be between Chatterton and MacPherson, I will take MacPherson every time. Rowley Powley Gammon and Spinach!
-
Enjoyed this very much, thanks plegmund.
