Punch it!
Ideas from the 50s by a German scientist could mean a hyperdrive machine is possible.
I don't understand half of this, but can't wait to see the stars turn into white streaks as I outrun an Imperial Star Destroyer.
Towards the end of the second world war, [Burkhard Heim] worked as an explosives developer, and an accident in 1944 in which a device exploded in his hands left him permanently disabled. He lost both his forearms, along with 90 per cent of his hearing and eyesight.
After the war, he attended university in Göttingen to study physics.
wow, this guy was hardcore.
nice link kit!
Fascinating.
So, let me get this straight.
On the one hand, a huge electromagnetic engine that allows spacemen to travel to Mars in three hours.
On the other, the world losing all its change.
This is gonna take a few minutes to get the coordinates from the navacomputer.
Someone take the professor and plug him into the hyperdrive...
no need to bother with the navacomputer. as space is infinte, and we know that there are parts of space not occupied by planets, the number of planets must be finite. as THE FIRST BOOK OF HHG2G tells us, anything finite divided by infinity becomes so small as to not be worth bothering about. therefore the chances of coming out of hyperspace inside a planet are trifling.
so just press the button.
I'm still scared.
You press it.
No, no, the button!
Which button? This one? The red, jolly, candy-like button?
*jabs perilously close to candy-like button*
Left a bit!
Right a bit!
Aaah! That's got it....
Aww, come on, government, no need to run another test; just dig up those papers on your Philadelphia experiment.
What happens if you push the button?
Maybe something good. Maaaybe something bad.
But we won't find out, will we?
Because you. won't. push. it!
Which was yes? The destroy Russia, or the, uh, number two?
Not. my god. damn. planet, monkeyboy.
I don't give a flying handshake what your name is.
....You are... John Surlyboi. And you... John SmallPeteBest.
surly!
Hmmmm. So a highly charged ring several meters in diameter will, in conjunction with gravity and electromagnetism, create a heretofore undefined (largely) primary force powerful enough to propel a spaceship at speeds making interplanetary travel possible? And what shape would a spaceship be that had this type of propulsion unit?
okay, i'm missing a whole bunch of references here. are the comments before jester's plan 9 from outer space-speak?
The red button stuff is from Ren and Stimpy, and the rest is from Buckaroo Banzai. Heh heh. I'm such an old geek.
"And what shape would a spaceship be that had this type of propulsion unit?"
Aha.
Jester: yes it would. And so would my wife. And ring-shaped, like everything else, or at least my wife says so, and she knows about rings, oh yes.
Actually, I was looking for a way to simply explain hyperdrives in a screenplay I'm working on. This helps.
