Monkeys Going Postal (MPG)! Based on this post by planetthoughtful a letter writing club has been started by Alnedra.

Pretty simple guidlelines to follow and to make it even easier you can email Alnedra to get you set up. 1. Livejournal is really easy to set up. If you like, email me with a list of usernames (probably about three, in case the first one is already taken), and I'll set one up for you. You'll get a confirmation email in your inbox, click on the link and you're in! I'll do the invitation to the Monkeysgoingpostal community on my end, so that you can join the community just by clicking a link also (I think). 2. Handwritten letters would be nice, but any letter is great. Type them out, print them, do it ransom-note style even! The important thing is tht letters are sent out and letters are received (^_^) This is for Monkeyfilter members only. The more the merrier. Go check it out and sign up!!

  • Since I'm currently reading Going Postal, and since I've been the recipient of more cards from Alnedra than I've sent to her, and since Grandma says I write nice letters, I feel I should sign myself up. Waiting for letters to arrive always reminds me of summers on an island in Maine when I was a kid, going to old Ethel's house (she ran a small post office out of her kitchen) and asking if I had any mail. If there wasn't any, Ethel would say, "you gotta bait the trap, deah". Ethel may not have had any teeth, and the post office usually smelled of boiled cabbage, but dammit, she was right!

  • Hee, Koko, I'm (re)reading Going Postal too at the moment! I'm still trying to figure out alot of the functions of running a Livejournal community, so please bear with me if I do screw up. But addresses posted on the lj will definitely be locked from non-members, and setting up accounts are not a problem.
  • Swans Island ... I don't think there is a Crabapple Cove. I did, however, live in an Owls Head for a couple years ...

  • I've put a notice for January's round of letters. On the 5th I'll note who has offered to participate, and on the 6th I'll announce the round robin.

  • We use them soybean crayons at work. They're awesome, but THEY DON'T SMELL LIKE CRAYONS! I never realized how much of the crayon-using experience was tied in to that particular smell. It evokes that unique childhood sensation of unlimited possibility mingled with hopeless frustration. We also give out golf tees made of corn.

  • January round has been posted. I'm still trying to figure out why invitations don't get sent out. I've made the community as open as I can, excepting allowing anyone to join without moderation, because that would mean anyone can waltz in, and see all the addresses.

  • Did you update the LJ? It looks the same to me. Anyway, I got an excellent letter from danapiper (thanks danapiper!) which motivated me to finish my letter to Alnedra, which will go int he mail today! Letter writing is fun! It is also fun to get letters! So join up today dammit!
  • I replied to my letter from planetthoughtful before starting my letter to danapiper, so I'll get that one out tomorrow. :)
