Curious George: I am thinking of a book Can't think of the title of it though. It's a science-fiction type book where Satan is the good guy and is trying to free humans from God's tyranny. I seem to remember reading about it on a religious blog like RealLivePreacher or something like that. Any of you monkeys know what I'm talking about?
  • At a guess, Job, by Heinlein?
  • I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan?
  • You may be thinking of His Dark Materials. More fantasy than sci-fi, and Satan isn't a character in the book, but yes, the heroes are indeed trying to destroy God and free the world from his tyranny. Made a minor stir among some conservative Christians, but surprisingly nothing, especially compared to the bullshit they raised over Harry Potter. On preview, if you haven't read I, Lucifer, I highly recommend it.
  • s/b "suprisingly nothing like I expected"
  • I wrote a story like that: it's called Worship the Dark Lord Satanus and Sacrifice Unto Him Your Parents and Drink Their Blood Upon His Altar Under the Full Moon to Obtain the Beast's Mark but if any of you guys can think of a title with more "zing", that would be great.
  • How about Autumns I Have Loved? Or maybe Cock-Hungry Shaved Asian Sluts?
  • How I Spent My Summer Vacation, by Quidnunce Kid, the.
  • The DaVinci Coad. Bound to sell a few copies.
  • Quid - how about "The Fluffy Bunnies' Happy Cheery Day"? The Beast's mark is kind of an afterthought in that one though.
  • The Twisted Passions of Hecubus and Sir Simon Milligan. "But Hecubus! I haven't seen the movie yet..! Eeeevil! Eeeeevil!" Heh.
  • Good work all. In line with your excellent suggestions, I shall call it Autumns I Have Loved Shaving Cock-Hungry Asian Sluts on Summer Vacation Who Were Reading The DaVinci Co-ed's Fluffy Bunnies' Happy Cheery Day while Twisting the Passions of Hecubus and Sir Simon Milligan. Thanks, that reads a lot better.
  • I'm guessing Memnoch the Devil by Ann Rice. MCT, that series was damn good. Thanks for reminding me about them - I'd borrowed them, so must go get them.
  • Thanks, Nomen. That was it.
  • Nomen's book sounds good. I've put it on my list. If anybody else has good debbil-related fiction, put it up here.
  • Mark Twain's Letters from the Earth is a hoot.
  • Glad to be of service, oh dark lord^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H Ghost Dad. Strangely, Amazon recommened that one to me 'cause I had previously purchased the non-fiction work The Gnostic Gospels by Pagels, if I'm remembering correctly.
  • To Reign in Hell - Steven Brust same guy who writes the Taltos series
  • paradise lost is good. the sequel is crap.
  • You may think it's stupid because it's a comic book but The Preacher (Ennis/Dillon) is pretty good.
  • Proof Satan Exists
  • Here's a weird one I enjoyed: "Satan: His Psychotherapy and Cure by the Unfortunate Dr. Kassler, J.S.P.S " by Jeremy Leven.
  • er, Proof Satan Exists Ahh now that should work...
  • Okay this is pissing me off now. My HTML code on preview looks dandy and the image shows up in the preview... but when I go to post it I get nada. I am pretty sure my code is kosher. What's up?
  • Figured it out. Damn Blogger stopping me from hotlinking! Like they don't have bandwidth to spare for teh funny! pfft!
  • "Good Omens" by Terry Prachet and Neil Gaimen? comment contains 0% preview
  • "The War Hound And The World's Pain" by Michael Moorcock?
  • middleclasstool is probably correct. "His Dark Materials" is the name of Pullman's trilogy in the US, but in the UK it's also been known as "Northern Lights." The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass. Also, Vertigo Comics' series Lucifer. Not for that plotline, but for debbil books.
  • LivewireConfusion, I want to believe that I'd go to similar lengths to post a picture so disgusting. Thank you.
  • Weezel, in Good Omens, Satan was still a bad guy - and so were the angels. I recall reading a short-short story about an alien prince who escaped to earth and dug deep into the crust because his race could only survive in extremely high temperatures. Before doing so, he spoke with the usurpers of his throne, who claimed that they would thwart his attempt to use the people of Earth to regain his position, by pretending to be God and angels, and casting him in the role of the Devil. However, I recall that the prince used the name Lucifer, not Satan. I think. Can't even remember the author or which anthology it appeared in now.
  • For Love of Evil by Piers Anthony It's the second to last book in his Incarnations of Immortality, about how a priest becomes Satan. I recommend reading the other books first though.
  • There's a great Harlan Ellison short story where the Snake is the good guy...
  • Curious George Goes to Hell
  • The dog in the fry suit looks just like mine. We are damned. Damned!
  • I remember a short story called, "The Way of Cross and Dragon" where Judas Iscariot was a misunderstood hero.
  • Or Leon Rosselson's classic song Stand Up for Judas ...Said Jesus, I am the answer You unbelievers shall burn forever, shall die in your sins Not sheep and goats, said Judas, But together we may dare Shake off the chains of misery we share... ...Said Jesus, I am the answer And you who hunger only remember your reward's in Heaven So Jesus preached the other world but Judas wanted this And he betrayed his master with a kiss...
  • lucifer pops up a few times in the sandman series by neil gaiman, notably season of mists.
  • well, yeah - the vertigo Lucifer series I mentioned earlier initially came out under the Sandman Presents label. Same character. Weirdly NOT the same character as Constantine's Lucifer, even though it was based on Hellblazer, another Vertigo title.
