Larry Flynt On Porn Interview The Flyntster talks about the internet, free speech and his time in prison.
  • /lengthy quote alert "Benjamin Franklin once said that those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither. I think Bush and Ashcroft could learn a lot by taking a page from Ben Franklin's book. I just can't believe that our lawmakers actually voted for it (the Patriot Act). We basically gave away all of our civil liberties. A lot of Americans think, "I'm not Arab, so it doesn't affect me." But the Patriot Act has no color barriers. They just used part of the Patriot Act to bust a strip club owner in Las Vegas. The law is on the books, and you don't need a judge's authority to do wiretaps, and you don't have to provide a person you arrest with an attorney, and the books you check out of a library can be placed in question, and attorney-client conversations can be monitored. Ashcroft went to Capitol Hill and intimidated lawmakers into passing this by effectively saying "Blood will be on your hands if you don't pass it." The one good thing about the Patriot Act is that it includes a sunset clause -- it's supposed to go away at the end of 2004. I don't think they'll find the support to renew it now." Yeah, this was the joke candidate; but Schwarzenegger won in a landslide. One ticket to Canada please.
  • Thanks for posting this Sullivan. I've always found Larry Flynt to be really interesting. I may not agree with everything he's doing, but at least he's thougtful about it and stands up for what he believes in. And really, People vs. Larry Flynt was a fantastic movie. [derail] And forks, I think that Schwarzenegger was a sign that the people of California just wanted something different. I didn't vote for him, but I think that because an overwhelming number of Californians did really says something about the Davis administration. What I will find interesting is how people will vote in March. He put a couple things on the ballot that he couldn't get the legislature to pass. We'll see if his election was actually a mandate from the people or a desperate cry for anything new. [/derail]
  • What's wrong with being a fag hag? (although to be honest, I prefer the term 'fruit fly') That's probably the *nicest* thing I could think of to call Ann Coulter.....
  • I don't think L.F. was implying it was a bad thing, just that it was mighty hypocritical... which is also ironic considering all her comments about how liberals coin the market on hypocracy.
  • Damn, I forgot I posted this.
  • So did I Sully . . err anyway Kimberly, what happened in March? (re: your Feb. post)
  • Flynt: Hustler involved in more than 20 sex scandal investigations I don't care what their sex life involves... rather the goal is exposing hypocrisy. Unfortunately we have too many of these guys in Congress, and I'm going to do my part to get them out...
