A Sufjan Stevens Christmas.
Unleash your inner neo-hippie this Xmas with several seasonal seraphic shanties.
-
"Shanties" as in run down houses, or "chanties" as songs about the sea?
-
I've been listening to this for a few weeks, some of it is a bit blah but some is really inspired. I love the version of I Saw Three Ships in particular. But I'm a Sufjan fangirl, so...ymmv.
-
Look it up, path. Did I mean chanty, chantey, shanty or shantey? Turns out words from the past change when applied to barely literate people and a long enough time-line. Who knew?
-
for me, the spelling "shanty" is more familiar for the sort of song a salty sea dog is likely to break into, but i note from merriam-webster that path's spelling is preferred. both shanty and chanty are derived from french: chantier (building site) and chanter (to sing)

Does this need to derive into a frigging war about spelling? MW isn't the only bloody reference. Thanks for harping on my aestheitic choices for visual alliteration and contributing to a great discussion about the link.
-
It's only a frigging war if you make it one, InsolentChimp.
-
Several seasonal seraphic shanties is also a tongue twister, say it five times fast, HawthorneWingo.

MonkeyFilter: It's only a frigging war if you make it one.

I like pie.

and Sufjan Stevens too..thanks InsolentChimp
-
IrritableChimp IrascibleChimp so i made an observation about a question of terminology? lighten up.
-
Chimp, there's no need to go to fifth gear straight from first. It makes an unpleasant grinding sound, too.

Shantideva
-
well, i liked it... and lets not get pedontic about the spelling
-
THis is lovely stuff, Chimp.
-
well, i liked it... and lets not get pedontic about the spelling A bref of freche ayre.
-
roryk, I prefer something like, Ill-naturedChimp or AssoholicChimp. The question you posed wasn't innocent but pedandtic. I assume that you are an intelligent person from other comments of yours and that you could easily understand the meaning of the word that I chose from the context of the link. This is why I responded in the way that I did. So I'm an ass, nothing new there.

Have a good holly day, too, roryk. My bad. I confused your original comment with path's comment. Still learning to look back into the past. No hard feelin's?
