Exchanging a paperclip for a house, by degrees.
Montrealer trading stuff - he should be able to get himself a handgun any day now.
-
Just curious -- is this the first time anyone's tried this? It's a brilliant idea but I have a nagging feeling it's been done before, albeit with something besides a red paper clip.
-
I could swear I saw something like this recently, as well. I'm having mad deja vu. According to the comments on the page, it's been done before in some ways. The Kawelka do this with pigs.
-
InsolentChimp, maybe you saw it here?
-
Gack! Wish I had. Sigh.
-
Still, a pretty cool idea. It'll be interesting to see how far he gets.
-
Naw, Alnedra, I don't lurk at MeFi anymore. I thought I saw something like this but the trade ended up being for something smaller than a house but bigger than a breadbasket.
-
I have a turd I'll trade for a Ferrari. Anybody?
-
I thought this had been linked over at Fark. Someone mentioned that the concept had been run on Fox's Big Fat Obnoxious Boss or something. In my defence, no-one had posted here in a really long time.
-
So far it looks like he hasn't passed step one. Maybe he should start by twisting the paperclip into an interesting sculpture. That way it would be worth trading for something 'better'.
-
I think I saw this over at BoingBoing. I think it's floating round the net a lot. It's a neat idea.

One of the events at my School during frosh week at involves something like this. It's called "Bigger and Better", and your frosh group starts off with a campus newspaper. At the end, everyone gathers at the local park, showing off what you're able to get. Some groups manage to get fire trucks, police cars, permits to bars, and tanks (the Royal Military College is a hop, skip and a jump away from our university).

Look at the link. That's from several months ago, when he just started; he's up to a snowmobile now.
-
Also, flying_w: was this Queen's or Loyalist? How long ago was this?
-
It was at Queen's, and this event is still going on. (I was a frosh two years ago).
-
he is coming close to achieving his dream
-
That's hot. Totally awesome.
-
Looks like he got the house.
-
Why can't I ever think of stuff like this? Doh!
