Run Nickdanger run - Nickdanger's magnificent odyssey comes to an end? Hopefully he'll just be resting up and continuing with his journey because I haven't laughed so much in ages. Scrolling sideways through monkeyfilter using the Newer >> link is weird.
  • That's going to be a looooooooooooong journey. If he, indeed, keeps it up.
  • Who's the metafilter now?
  • I thought it was due to some server re-location hiccups why all those ancient post were resurfacing.
  • They're not old, consider them regifted
  • Re-animated... Oh-oh Run! ZOMBIE THREADS! Run for your lives!
  • i thought he just made a mistake and posted something to the wrong thread, as what he had to say made so little sense...but then again, does he ever make sense?
  • How can he be in two places at once when he's not anywhere at all???
  • cyberspace.
  • Amusing as this has been, I look forward to the day when sanity returns to my sidebar.
  • Go Nick! *waves monkey flag*
  • *rings cowbell*
  • Hurry up and get to my old posts. And then stop.
  • I will reach here one day. But today is not that day. Dear lord, I don't know when it will be.
  • pwned!
  • Amusing as this has been, I look forward to the day when sanity returns to my sidebar. Hear, hear.
  • Understandable, but now I have to go at least until I've encountered my first comment and post--to continue the time travel allegory, you see.
  • OK, I can't go on. But thanks for the fun!
  • Fizzle fap bizzle snort.
  • Er.. I mean, Wow. I have fans! Can I have sponsership?
  • Shure! I'll bet we can get a couple iletorate wankers to get behind you alla way.
  • BearGuy, who started reading the posts after the pressure was off, has some good, if brief, commentary. I also love his time travel conceit. And, it's my sidebar, too, you guys in the peanut gallery. The archives had been down for so long that this tour has been refreshing for nostalgic fuddy duddies like me.
  • *grumbles about damn kids these days, with their sidebar wastin'*
  • Nick, I just wonder how you've affected the history of this place. It's a sweet idea, but an artificial one. If only I could go back in time and change the outcome.
  • The sidebar is now so long I had to buy a bigger monitor. I hope you're happy. Punks.
  • If I had a scrollwheel, I'd have worn it out by now.
  • Nick, I just wonder how you've affected the history of this place. It's a sweet idea, but an artificial one. If only I could go back in time and change the outcome. Bzuh?
  • At least your sidebar works. Mine only works if MoFi's broken. No Fair!
  • I wish he'd shut the fucking hell up.
  • Official statement re: Wolof's comments: Blow it out your ass.
  • I'm sorry, that comes out a little harsh. I mean, respectfully, blow it out your ass.
  • I've enjoyed the epic, but if the chronolateralising madness doesn't end soon, we're going to end up with lots of threads that end in pointless off-topic wibble. Oh, wait...
  • Yeah, I must admit it is pointless and extremely annoying.
  • My friends, my fans, my community: Thank you for your support in the preceding days. My journey was long and difficult, pointless and annoying, and without your help I never would have made it past FPP #20. There were ups, there were downs, there were days when I truly thought that the race, for me, at least, had come to an end. And yet, I persevered, because you, yes you the fans, were behind me. Literally behind me, some threatening, some jockeying to take the lead, some just there to revisit old times. I realized I wasn't just representing myself out there in the cold forgotten corners of Monkeyfilter, I was representing you, and you represent love, and love represents peace and peace represents, I dunno, a dove or something. And that's what it really comes down to: a dove or something. However, I must now announce my departure from the sport of Pointless Off-Topic Wibble. I'm afraid that the old fingers just aren't what they used to be, the inanities somehow ring less true than once they did, and the product placement deals never really panned out. It is with heavy heart that I turn away from the past, but in so doing, I find that I look to the future. And in the future there will be clones of Hitler that have been raised as though they were Elvish and I really want to know how that's going to turn out. Thank you MonkeyFilter. May your sidebar be forever strong. BTW, this has NOTHING to do with the French police raid on my hotel room. I'd like to thank the_bone, BearGuy, Lara, Zanshin, Medusa, tracicle, alnedra, Jesus and Count Chocula.
  • Don't give up now! I was loving it and thought it wonderful!
  • Well, now that I am rested and awake again, I'd like to weigh in, as being the potential perpetuator of monkeys' misgivings re: sidebar length. I really have to give a big ol' bunch of bananas to nickdanger for having the original brilliance to try and comment on every thread in MonkeyFilter thus far. Of course, given that this thread we're chatting in is, upon examination, thread # 10,490, the actual completion of such a goal is--and I'm trying to use the proper scientific term here--batshit insane. So, I have no desire to try and accomplish nick's original goal. Christ, it took me a good chunk of yesterday just to catch up to the end of his magnificent Odyssey, and that was only 130 or so links. However, as patient readers may have noted, I had an epiphany around link 180 or so, that this marathon was, in fact, affording me the opportunity to visit links before I joined MonkeyFilter in late December 2003. Moreover, since the topic of time travel had been introduced, I felt an appropriate and attainable new goal would be to "travel" until I reached the my first comment. Since I am around link 210 now--a wearying task to be sure as I made certain to comment in each and every post--and I am estimating that I won't hit my first comment until at least link 350 or more, I'd like to abandon the race paradigm. All those comments in a day will surely piss off even the most patient monkeys. So what I would like to do, with the blessing of the assembled Royal Society of Simians (Mainly Monkeys) is go forthwith, from my temporary camp at link 210 to the source of the Nile, er, first posted comment by BearGuy in a methodical fashion, perhaps no more than 12 comments per day until I "summit" at that post. I will, of course, endeavour to abandon the "ego-climbing" and racing attitude that, perhaps, marked a large chunk of the earlier ascent of many of our Lateral Tour Group's comments and bring back to this forum: other threads to revisit, exotic citrus fruits, and the hopefully, a good chunk of comments to enrich the greater archives of MoFi. I mean, I don't wish to abandon a perfectly good pointless quest if I don't have to. What say you all?
  • Huh? Wha? It was you and Nick doing that alla time? I thought it was some new feature Trac had implimented or sumpin' Or maybe a bug.
  • *rattles souvenir rainstick*
  • Hmmm... a far more sane enterprise, though one thankfully uncluttered by a "point". I like it! Perhaps I shall join you on this pleasant stroll through MoFi's history. I thought it was some new feature Trac had implimented or sumpin' Or maybe a bug. Trust me, I'm NOT a feature.
  • May I propose the implementation of a feature wherein a random quote from Nickdanger appears in any thread that reaches its second birthday? And some ASCII balloons pop up or something...?
  • MonkeyFilter: I must admit it is pointless and extremely annoying. *bows to Chyren*
  • I thought it should go like a "this day two years ago" meme, only up to the day of teh eyar that is today. So in a few days, go back to Dec 9 2003.
  • I'm sorry, I'm too tired to spell corectly.
  • Believe me, based on the number of threads between where I am now and where my first ever comment is, you'll want me to add on only 12 or so threads a day. There were some really frantically posting monkeys two years ago and if I did it by day, well, let's just say that some monkeys who value a short sidebar would be quite put out.
  • what is the value of a short sidebar?
  • There are those of us who've enjoyed the tour of the archives, and those who would have preferred to easily find additions to new threads via a short sidebar. Maybe like "chaos/reviewing our history is good," vs. "I don't have time to review 200 old posts right now, so a short sidebar fits my schedule." The difference in priorities hasn't caused any real dissention, and the intrepid explorers of the MonkeyFilter caves have been great about acknowledging that others prefer to surf on the surface. (heh.)
  • what is the value of a short sidebar? For the record, without this trek through history, generally when an old thread crops up on the sidebar, that's an indication that someone (usually homunculus, though it varies) has added actual information to the thread, usually a new link to a related article. But having forty "new comments" links on the sidebar every two hours with this new project forces the user to sift through a bunch of noise to get to actual new content, or chaff to wheat, if you prefer a biblical analogy. BearGuy's idea of limiting the per diem comments is much appreciated, in that respect. Less stuff to look through for those who aren't interested in following this amusement. Otherwise the sidebar is effectively held hostage by those who are.
  • mct said what i thought wthout swearing once.
  • TRASH HEAP SHIT DOG FUCK BUTTER AUUGGH CNUT
  • Madd propz 2 tha H-dogg!! also i look for the multiple posts these days. And i'm happy there's more bee-hives too
  • Ahh, forcefully exhale it from your donkey, mct. Sorry, I just thought that the non-swear version of Wolof's comment needed a non-swear version of my response. But yeah, I totally understand about the sidebar. It was pretty ridiculous for a couple of days there. From now on, I promise to only break Monkeyfilter for REALLY important things. You know, like full moons and such.
  • I didn't realize that Nickdanger's quest ended so quickly. I remember it starting, and I revisited some of the threads. "Discovered" would be more accurate. That was fun. Some of the old links were still working, and that was fun, too. I noticed the sidebar thing (I think), but it did not have too much of an effect on me. That may have something to do with the fact that the only people's comments I find to be interesting are my own. I sort of liked it. And I like chaos. I always thought that if I were being chased by dinosaurs at some island park that I would get turned gay by Jeff Goldblum. I would mimic Nickdanger's efforts, but I don't want to be known as a Nickdanger wannabe. Seriously, what could possibly be more degrading? Instead, I am going to go back through each and ever fpp ever posted on here, wait for it to appear on my screen, and wipe a small amount of feces onto my monitor. This is a quest I shall see to its completion.
  • Can we have an annual running of the Nickdanger, like the bulls of Pamplona?
  • Can we have an annual running of the Nickdanger, like the bulls of Pamplona? Oh, we'll have something like it. Oh yes we will indeed.... *rubs hands-er-paws together gleefully*
  • Ah, fun days.
  • Ah, shit.
  • *Removes monocle "Valiant effort old bean" *polite golf clap
