Rest Stop, Stephen King's latest story, available online. Here too is the transcript of King's National Book Foundation's Distinguished Contribution award acceptance speech. That's more directly related to this ancient thread.
  • Brief summary of the transcript: "I'm not crap! Really! My wife told me!"
  • Fair summary of the transcript: My wife is wonderful and helped me write. I'd like it if lit readers and popular readers crossed over more. People who make their ignorance of popular culture a point of pride are asshats.
  • Summary of panel's discussion of King: "He's sold a lot of books. Lets give him an award."
  • I am proud not to know what "asshat" means.
  • Stephen King's soon-to-arrive-on-ABC remake of Lars von Trier's bizarre 1994 miniseries The Kingdom. Such presumption. The official website "changes" during your visit (into way cheesy).
  • *The Kingdom* Having seen the eight-hour TV series version of this, I have to say that A Steven King Remake of it seems like a really Terrible Idea. Another question. *Dead Zone*. The worst Cronenberg ever, or the best?
  • I really like Dead Zone - but I wouldn't say it was his best. Nor his worst. But then I haven't seen a Cronenberg film I didn't like. Except maybe The Fly.
  • I shed a few tears over his kind words about his wife's unwavering support. He's lucky to have her.
  • I whole-heartedly agree, Mick. My lovely wife was/is always supportive, too, (I'm an actor) but she also let's me know that my career choice has been very very hard on her at times. If I'm not on the road touring with a show, or doing a show in just one far-away city, OR working for too little money, or making her miserable because I'm miserable in a certain play, then we're OK. It is a good thing she has her own career togetherand is doing so very well by herown self-- thatis why we're moving to Worcester next week--SHE got a great job offer. And I'll be commutting in to Boston, NYC, and wherever... Being the spouse of an artist is much harder than being the artist, and hats off to Tabitha King and my wife Becky!
