Disbarred!
Let's hope the family of that WoW player who jumped to his death isn't being represented by legendary video-game crusader Jack Thompson... cuz he's been disbarred in Alabama. For reals.
-
He was just thrown off the case, not disbarred yet, surely? Hopefully he will be, though. Also, Jack goes nuts over critical Amazon comments, threatens to sue Amazon! Gotta read some of the review comments, too funny.
-
Read the article: he has been disbarred. He tried to withdraw from the case and the judge said "not good enough" and disbarred him for his recent behaviour. It may not last that long, but it's real. Oh Jack. He gives lawyers a bad name... and that's saying something!
-
I read the article, I just had a hard time parsing it.
-
Okay, I'll grant you it's not very clear, Chyren.
-
A Judge cannot disbar an attorney. The State Bar can only do that. The State Bar will have some sort of ethics committee set up that hears just such matters. In Alabama, that is apparently called the "Discipline Commission." The Judge yanked the lawyer off of the case (which he can do) and sent made a complaint to the Alabama State Bar. The Alabama State Bar has yet to make a decision.
-
See, what bernockle said is what I gathered from the article. If he had been disbarred, why would he need to send him off for disciplinary action? But it doesn't detract from the informative post, because laughing at Jack Thompson never gets old.
-
What bernokle said, too. I think it was the evil media that got you by jumping the gun with the headlines. " Instead, the Judge revoked Thompson's Pro Hac Vice admission, essentially removing him from the case. "[From the second link] He had a visitor's pass to practice in Alabama, which was revoked. Moore is going to the disciplinary commission to see if that can do anything further to keep him from practice in Alabama. Just a guess.
-
Now I'm confused. Yes, his Pro Hac Vice admission is gone in Alabama. But isn't Alabama the state where he practices? He is registered through the Alabama bar I believe. Can he practice in other states, then? What's the difference between being totally disbarred and having no Pro Hac Vice? Seems to me a lawyer who is unable to practice is not really a lawyer.
-
Pro hac vice in Alabama. All searches seem to point that Jack Thompson is a member of the Florida state bar association.
-
Jack Thompson is from Miami. His licence is in Florida. Jack Thompson wrote a responce to the judge revolking his Pro Hac Vice admission that was so outrageous gamepolitics.com doesn't want to print it because they are afraid it might open them up to libel... He also threatened Amazon.com because of negative reviews of his book. I'm waiting for him to sue me because I put an Amazon affiliate ad for his book on my blog and I talk about him pretty frequently.
-
I'm just glad someone's giving him the kick in the ass he so desperately needs. THAT's something that will never get old.
