You're Totally Soaking In It
Most of us who aren't rich have to do some goofy things in order to feed ourselves, provide clothing and shelter to loved ones, and generally sustain live so that we can do the things that we really love (make art, post links, expand minds).
Jan Miner, aka Madge the Manicurist, was a serious actress. She figured out how to do what she wanted and still eat three square meals a day.
Let's all think back to our own "you're soaking in it" moments, have some lunch, and endeavor to be half as successful and Jan Miner.

Yep, sorry about that. (Link is NYT, registration). Here's a non-subscription version of her obituary: http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2004-02-18-miner-obit_x.htm

Farewell to the canny lass with clean, clean nails.

I've always had a thing for her and aunt bee. Alas, I'm sooo lonely now...

27 years! How many ad campaigns have had such legs? How many ad campaigns have featured a single actress in the role for so long? Anybody, other than perhaps Mr. Whipple? I resolve to take better care of my nails today, in memoriam.

I like to think Madge and Mr. Whipple are in heaven right now, doing highly charged erotic acts with dishwashing liquid and toilet paper.... Oh wait. No I don't.

Don't forget the Lonely Maytag Repairman, a commercial character created in 1969 that has outlived TWO actors playing him...
