Lots of good stuff already mentioned! It's really hard for me to pick just 5, so I'll go for stuff I like rather than my top faves per se. I'll assume MoFi and anything MeFi related are probably givens, and try not to repeat stuff that's already been posted, like Lifehacker. Apartment Therapy Cool Tools Maud Newton Bookslut Blog Nordinho - I'm not really into the blog features and such here, but it's a really good place to learn about online adventure and locked-room games and get hints for them. There are a few others I like, but not as much... Craftster, for example, has a lot of great stuff, but also a lot of people on the msg boards who aren't paying enough attention to the site's mission (look, your Evanescence-themed craft will never be indie-hip). Knitty and MagKnits are both interesting but flawed free online knitting mags. Digs is an interesting site that's sort of like a lower-rent Apartment Therapy, which is not at all a bad thing (since AT can get pretty chi-chi and what they consider affordable is not often what I consider affordable). I mentioned on another thread yesterday that I also like Web SuDoku; WebCrosswords is right up the same alley. Great bored-at-work games that most workplaces won't let you access. (It used to annoy me that I couldn't play games from my desk while on lunch....) And if you're into either of those and/or Nordinho, you might also appreciate Grey Labyrinth, which is mostly logic puzzles. There are also some good online comics (or newspaper comics with online presences) worth reading, which I'm too lazy to link but which are easy to find: Cat & Girl, Sinfest, Get Fuzzy, Pearls Before Swine, A Softer World, etc. Nothing in the last few paragraphs would make my top 5, but they are worthwhile to me.

Not repeating anything above and not including MoFi or MeFi, I come up with the following: The Morning News Coudal Partners The Press Gaggle A Little Pregnant The Chronological Episode List of Buffy - I've wasted many an hour reading episode transcripts.
