Conjoined Country Star
Reba- "I have a job singing in show business. Lori, my twin, has to go along with that because it's my career. When I am singing, Lori is like any other fan, except she's up on the stage with me." Lori- "I do not ask for anything from Reba - I don't get in to her concerts free just because she's a conjoined twin. I have to pay, just like every other fan that comes to that concert. They don't see me there. It's like there's a blanket over me because I am quiet and I don't make a noise."
  • When I look at various problems that people have with disease or with deformities, it often think that it would be possible to construct my life in such a way as to be able to deal with it. When I see conjoined twins, I do not have those thoughts. I truly just cannot begin to even imagine it. Maybe, like anything else, it really is not so bad because it is all they have ever known. I don't know. I just know that I can't possibly put myself in their shoes in my mind.
  • Must be a unique Stetson.
  • oh come on bernockle! when I think of all the problems one would have as a conjoined twin, I try to imagine that I would develop a positive attitude and find creative ways to live with my...parasite. BUT JOINED AT THE FUCKING HEAD?????????????????????????????????
  • put myself in their shoes in my mind. Might be easier if they were conjoined foot to head.
  • If my conjoined twin didn't put me on the damn guest list at least every once in a while, I'd be right pissed off, consarnit!
  • Can anyone find Reba's tour schedule?
  • No, kimdog, I tried as well. Since she got that contract almost 10 years ago, maybe she just plays every once in a while now, instead of regular current tours.
  • Her sister makers her buy a ticket to every show! What a bitch! She could at least comp her once in a while.
  • I did manage to google some lyrics Cojoined Troubles (from the 2004 release "Splitting Headache") Well, she held me by the hand She held me by the head She held me back from everything That I ever did Cojoined troubles Cojoined troubles All we got is cojoined troubles We traveled throughout life Thinking the same things But me I was the only half That ever wants to sing Cojoined troubles Cojoined troubles All we got is cojoined troubles When we're at church I give the holy sign But when I go "The father," I smack her in the eyes Cojoined troubles Cojoined troubles All we got is cojoined troubles
  • I think I remember seeing an hour-long Sally Jesse Raphael (or Maury, I don't recall) special on these twins. I know for sure it was about country signing conjoined twins. How many of those could there be?
  • And then, in bad taste: the Schappell sisters costume
  • mmmm, tastes like chicken.
  • I think the real question here is "how did that grey t-shirt get put on?"
  • One's a little bit country, the other's goddamn sick of having to go to Branson every year and having her request for "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" ignored.
  • fish tick... look closely (well, as closely as you can in this circumstance). The shirt has buttons.
  • All this tasteless smirky snickering is not pretty. Imagine the situation; I commend these ladies. I personally would rather die.
  • As a twin, all I can say is... Wow. Just, wow. I think they're coping amazingly well. Knowing how I feel about my sister, let me emphasize - they're coping AMAZINGLY well.
  • Buttons! /smacks forehead All this tasteless smirky snickering is not pretty. No, nor are the poor twins. However, they were brought to our attention, and of course one feels deeply for them and their predicament, but if we all just say "Oooh the poor things, what strength they must have to bear this" it wouldn't be a very interesting thread, now, would it? After all, there are plenty of people in even worse straits than Reba and Lori, so why are these two presented here? Because it's an *interesting* (though sad) situation. And many people here deal with the angstiness of life by making silly remarks. Sorry to have contributed to the lack of prettiness.
  • Monkeyfilter: Sorry to have contributed to the lack of prettiness.
  • I have seen a couple of documentaries that focus on these sisters, and I have to say that the documentaries seem to default to a position of "oh these poor deluded souls" rather than "how brave this is! They can totally achieve these goals!" I often wonder if the tone is defeating.
  • a couple of documentaries that focus on these sisters, and I have to say that the documentaries seem to default to a position of "oh these poor deluded souls" Yeah, fuck those Nazis! Wait, which singing sisters are we talking about?
  • I just ran across this picture of Lori and Reba in an article about photographer Andre Serrano.
