"In an absorbent homage to Georgia O'Keeffe, Kotex has introduced "flowerful" new packaging for its pads of all sizes." Salon link, requires day pass to view. (via Salon's Broadsheet)

The Kotex website features scrollovers on the products to tell you all about the new packaging. Quote Salon: "Did you know, for example, that the "Cactus Dahlia" (Latin: Dahlia variabilis cactaceae) featured on the maxipad "originated in the Aztec culture" and is "a symbol of dignity, elegance and good taste"? You didn't? That's because you can't get past the use of the word "cactus" anywhere near the word "maxipad.""

  • I couldn't find your Salon link, Melinka, though I did read the Broadsheet which was fun :) I probably just have the Sunday morning hazies.
  • I saw one of the boxes in the supermarket this morning, and thought it was a package of poptarts.
  • The world needs more absorbent homages. The Schiffer Swiffer? The Federline sponge? The Barnett Newman mop?
  • The Prince Charles tampon?
  • meredithea: Yeah, you have to go and get the Day Pass first, then come back here and click on the link to get to it. It's a bit of a pain. Sorry!
  • Poptarts aren't nearly absorbent enough.
  • I expected to see some actual Georgia O'Keefe art on the packaging (yeah, I don't know what I was thinking). Hey, I've seen some of these flowered packages and right now they really make the product stand out in that "feminine hygiene" aisle - everything else tends to be in a solid one color package. I still think Ram's Head, White Hollyhock & Little Hills would be cooler, though. Or a fallopian photo.
  • Ah, now I see it! Thanks for the help, Melinika.(Oh, and sorry for misspelling your name earlier. Slow day all 'round for me!)
  • un- wins. If not the thread, then at least the make yentruoc squirm contest. In a similar vein, how about the Clinton Cigar? Hmmm...that might actually be marketable. Patent! Patent! Patent! (That's how you patent stuff, right?)
  • Not to rain on the parade, but these have already been around for a month or two, and they were advertising the change in packaging later in the US summer as well... so it's not really really news. I guess it is if you don't see commercials or go down the ladyproducts aisle. :)
  • "Ah yes, the ladyproducts aisle is beautiful this time of year- What?!? You've never been?!?"
  • I've somehow managed to miss the commercials and haven't seen these in the feminine products aisle. So it's kinda news to me. Seems doubtful that my girlfriend would be all that interested in these, but I probably could win a few brownie points with a Georgia O'Keefe poster or something.
