I can see the music! Oh sure, you may say you've got golden ears. But can you tell whst the music is by looking at the grooves?
  • Randi wouldn't pay up even if it *was* paranormal he's so fuckin' dishonest.
  • "All I see now is: blonde, brunette, redhead..."
  • What is he dishonest about?
  • Some people have way too much time on their hands.
  • But can you tell whst the music is by looking at the grooves? I remember seeing a guy do this on "That's Incredible" when I was just a tyke.
  • That's fascinating. The range of the human mind never ceases to astound me. It reminded me of some of the experts described in Blink--especially the ones who looked at a certain statue and immediately knew it was fake.
  • According to the link, techsmith, it's the same guy.
  • I saw that after I replied :) Reminds me of this. Sorry, too lazy to check if this was posted already.
  • "The trick is to examine the physical construction of the recording and look at the relative playing time of each one of the movements or separations on the recording" DJs do that ALL THE TIME. I often figure out which track is which on a given record by the patterns on it. I couldn't name an arbitrary record based on its grooves, but it's a useful datapoint when going through my own crate. Or when you just don't know your own records well enough and want something without any big breakdowns - those are easy to see. It's also useful while the record is playing. You can see where a beat is going to drop off, or come back in, or if there's going to be a long outro that shouldn't be played unlayered. It's also one of the big reasons CD DJing never appealed to me very much - just not as much connection to the music that's playing.
  • [whisper] I see musical people! [/whisper]
