Daws Butler - Voice Magician
Voice of Elroy Jetson, Huckleberry Hound, Quickdraw McGraw, Yogi Bear, Cap'n Crunch, Snagglepuss and more. Link goes to the official Daws Butler website. "Exit, stage right."
-
"Exit, stage right." "with a flourish..."
-
"Smarter than the average bear."
-
And outside of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon factory, he did Beany of "Beany & Cecil" (he and Stan Freberg actually worked the puppets in the original), Cap'n Crunch and a bunch of 'Fractured Fairy Tales' characters for Jay Ward, and a professional voice acting course that my best friend at my college radio station had taken, making me insanely jealous.
-
And cartoon maven/blogger Mark Evanier also wrote volumes about Daws.
-
Be sure to listen to the Bob Edwards interview. So much good stuff there. Like Albert Einstein excusing himself from a meeting so he could watch "Beanie & Cecil". Truly the Golden Age.
-
I like how in the second file on the sounds page the crickets in the background get faster whenever the little possum speaks. That would imply that Daws had to do his part slowly so they could speed it up later and make him sound like little kid. Great stuff.
-
"heavens to mergatroid, alright already!"
-
Heavens to Murgatroyd, even. I'm saying it so Wendell won't have to.
-
"with a hop, skip and a jump even."
