I live in the Chicago suburbs and spend most of my free time listening to records, making mix discs, cartooning, and playing around with graphics.
My outlook is best summed up by the Theodore Sturgeon quote "Ninety percent of everything is crap." But it's not as cynical as it sounds, becasue rather than devoting my energy to hating that ninety percent of shit, I live for the ten percent of good. That ten percent is what drives me. It's the stuff that I can talk about for hours and will always have time to share with likeminded people.
For me, that ten percent includes XTC, the Simpsons, Bill Hicks, Mexican food, Monty Python, good graphic design, Malcolm Gladwell, numbers stations, Peter Bagge, power pop, reruns of the Dick Van Dyke show and the Bob Newhart show, a great segue between two songs that you wouldn't think work together, pho, the Boomtown Rats, Penn and Teller, David Sedaris, spending time wandering through just about any library, the dBs, Krazy Kat, the Buzzcocks, Bill Watterson, British and Mexican beers, Tex Avery cartoons, Mr Show, garage rock, Naked Raygun...
