Bio:

The gist:

1) I study the brain, that is to say, "cognitive psychology". I'm currently embarking on a minor in linguistics; it should come as no surprise that psycholinguistics is one of my favourite disciplines.

2) I write songs. I fronted a band for over eight years, learned a lot, made a bunch of mistakes, achieved a heap considering where we were coming from, and decided to call it quits at the right time. No regrets. Time to move on.

3) Some of my favourite places in the world, in no particular order: East Village/Bowery area, NYC; Taksim Sq and ˇstiklal Cadessi, Istanbul, Turkey; Leicester Sq area, London, England; Deák Ferenc Sq, Budapest, Hungary; Boompjes, Rotterdam, Netherlands, Spuiplein, The Hague, Netherlands.

4) I mentioned the last place as one of my favourite spots to my friend some five years ago, eliciting his patronising reply: "Well, you can't have seen much of the world then." Now that I have seen a little bit more, it's still in the list. It has taught me that beauty lies closer to home than you might think, if you just open up to it. This takes guts.

5) It has also taught me that a lot of people prefer to talk & tell rather than ask & listen. The latter is one of the noblest of skills to me, and an attitude which gets you a lot more in return.

6) Speaking of which: I am hardly a thrill-seeker, but rather the kind of person that wants to know at least a little bit about everything, and know *how to do anything* at least a little bit. A skill-seeker, if you will. Skills I've tried to acquire or refine over the past few years: kindness to strangers, work discipline, travel, letting go, listening, a basic knowledge of languages other than Dutch and English, refining my idiomatic knowledge and usage of English, digital photography and editing, digital video planning, shooting, and editing, creative and journalistic writing, basic HTML and CSS skills.

7) I was born and raised in Holland but I have a British passport.

8) I would be hard pressed to think of anything more important to me in this life than humour. From inanely silly to appriopriately inappropriate, laughter keeps me sane.
