Curious George: "Your Move, Mr. Cage" I was watching some old clips of The Daily Show and at least once Jon Stewart ended something by saying "Your move, Mr. Cage" in a most Dr. No-like manner...

A Google'ing brings up only one instance of it's use online and gives nary a hint as to where the phrase might come from. Is this an actual phrase? A line from a movie? Or just a made-up line by Mista Stewart? Anyone out there got a clue about the origin (if any)?

  • "Your move, Mr Bond" yields many results.
  • Yeah, but what I am looking for is "Your move, Mr. Cage"... perhaps it's simply unknowable...
  • nothing in nexis, sorry.
  • I realised that. Presumably Jon Stewart took a well-known phrase and adapted it. I'm also guessing that for unknown reasons, he's referring to Nicolas Cage.
  • Yeah, that was the only Cage I could think of too, although I don't think he was on... hmm... oh well.
  • Well, there's Luke Cage, but somehow I doubt it. Sounds to me like Stewart plucked a "hero" name out of the crapstream, like The Simpsons did with McBain. But I'm just guessing.
  • Wow, a googlewhack on "Your Move, Mr. Cage" Or if you prefer the greek, a Hapax Legomenon.
  • It's an obvious reference to the quality design of this site.
  • Freen... sorry, Freen, but I think a googlewack can NOT contain quote marks and must be limited to two words....
  • John Cage?
  • Maybe check the credits for the show, may refer to a staffer, producer or something. An in-joke.
  • I'm sure it's just what tracicle said, and the news story had a someone named Cage in it. Without the context, it's hard to tell you why he said it, strawberry. I think I've said something like that in conversation before, it's a fairly common phrase. Adding the tone, now therein lies the comedy. What was the rest of the story? I'd guess the answers to your questions are, in order, As real as the phrase "Monkeyfilter is the bombdaggery-doo". Yes, from James Bond, only adapted to fit a topical situation. Probably him or one of the other wonderfully talented, rarely lauded writers on the show. Yes.
  • I think I remember him saying that, and I had just assumed that it's because Nicolas Cage is in all those craptacular Jerry Bruckheimer movies.
  • Now that I think about it, this is one of those curious george posts that should be taken out and shot.
