Harvard @ Home : Multimedia Lectures from Harvard on a variety of topics. Currently you can hear Professor Diana Eck lecture on the Manifestations of Shiva. You can also look in the archive for lectures on topics such as The Recovery of the Bach Manuscripts,Oliver Cromwell or Beethoven's Ninth Symphony

  • MIT OpenCourseWare is another good resource for free online lecture and course notes.
  • I love this! I sat through that entire lecture on Shiva. Professor Eck is dreamy!
  • The lecture on Beethoven's Ninth Symphony by Thomas Kelly is wonderful and I recommend it for anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with or interest in this massive and impressive work of art. Mr. Kelly obviously has his point of view (and a flair for lecturing) - and as a student of music I can see it and occasionally disagree with it - but he also makes a point of involving all of us in what is undeniably a pinnacle of western music. The music becomes more impressive with his reading because the themes that Beethoven was dealing with are so essential to us all and Mr. Kelly points out how this is so. Great stuff, vaca pinter, and so thank you very much! And now I think I'll go pull out my CD of Leonard Bernstein with the BPO at the Brandenburg Gate in '89.

  • This is what I call an excellent post and followup with MIT. Now I will never leave the computer. Also, thanks for explaining what was in the post. One of my big MoFi complaints is that there are many post descriptions that do not give you even the most minor of clue as to what they are about. This happens on MeFi some, but not nearly as much.
