Did you ever wonder what it would be like to pop a water balloon in space?

(Previously on Monkeyfilter in this comment. Recently rediscovered over here - which is not suitable for work. I hope its alright as a front page post. If not delete away, mighty tracicle)

  • Pretty. Pretty pretty pretty. Preeeetty. Super Fantastische. Utterly evil double post though, you vile scum. I may be forced to make a reality TV show about it...
  • I've been gone so it is all new to me: COOOOOL beans, dng; I've always wondered how much cash it would take to get a civilian like me up in one of those "Vomit Comets" for an hour, supposing I wouldn't puke my guts out the entire time between high-pitched whimpers of "lemme outta here!" Maybe I should slowly build up to it, by skydiving, or bungee-jumping, or maybe getting my ass off the couch to change my clothes every coulpe of days. Please advise.
  • I'm not sure about that whole "changing clothes" thing, Dizzy...you don't want to rush into anything. Maybe you should start slowly, like with your socks. They're really starting to smell.
  • Start by tripping over stuff whilst sleepy. Everything seems slower, it's a pretty neat effect. Work your way up from there...
  • Whoah. That goodshit link really does have good shit.
  • seconded. Dng never takes the time to mention, but you should stop by his weblog, shouldn't you?
  • The tests were conducted in part to develop the ability to rapidly deploy large liquid drops by rupturing an enclosing membrane. Can anyone suggest why this is important knowledge to have? It looks to me like it's just some astronaut-scientists fucking around. I mean, it's cool and all, but I found myself thinking 'just get back to work already...'
  • The tests were conducted in part to develop the ability to rapidly deploy large liquid drops by rupturing an enclosing membrane. perhaps to test the deployment of liquid chemical?
  • deployment of liquid chemical what? and why? I still think they should get back to whatever got them up in the plane in the first place. If it was blowing bubbles into water blobs then NASA is wasting (my) money.
  • Excellent link, dng. I've seen this before, but it always amazes me.
  • ...wonder what it would be like to pop a water balloon in space? No doubt I should have been spending more time on this question, but instead have been pondering what a disembodied but functional eyeball would see if it were suspended inside a sphere with an (interiorly) mirrored surface.
  • Hehehe. beeswacky, you have just gave me an idea for my next software simulation.
  • a disembodied but functional eyeball would see if it were suspended inside a sphere with an (interiorly) mirrored surface. If you don't put some light in there, not a goddam thing.
