The Covers Project. Welcome to The Covers Project. We're building a database of cover songs (songs performed by an artist other than the original performer) with the intention of creating cover "chains." A cover chain is a set of songs in which each song is a cover of a song by the band who covered the preceding song.

The database of songs is pretty extensive. Personally, I think the idea of chains is pretty boring. Loops would be better, where you end with a cover of a song by the first band.

  • I found it useful for finding bands who had covered songs by my favorite artists. You're right, that is a really extensive database. Thanks and [banana]
  • For anyone interested, here's what some people had to say about the Covers Project 2 years ago.
  • Related.
  • Oh, almost a double post. I don't remember seeing that cruious george, in mitigation. It was bloody Christmas. (Thats my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.)
  • Good not-really-because-meta-is-starting-not-to-count double post - I had forgotten about that site. Mostly I like looking up what very strange covers have been done. Still rooting for Johnny Cash on "Hurt" as best cover ever (better than original), with Tori Amos's "Smells like Teen Spirit" a favorite because now I can actually hear the words. What other covers are better than the original band?
  • Cat Power is frighteningly good at cover versions. She even made Wonderwall sound fantastic.
