You need a ficus.

I have a ficus that's coming along, but it will be a while before I can use it over the abyss in the dining room...

The short-lived scifisitcom "Quark" had an alien character who claimed to be vegetable, not animal and was named "Ficus". I haven't been able to hear that word ever since without thinking of it. Of course, if "Quark" hadn't been cancelled after 13 weeks, by now Ficus would probably be a bridge...
